It's the dawn of a new day for the crypto industry with Donald Trump now the president-elect of the United States, said Galaxy Digital's Michael Novogratz, calling out the numerous crypto advocates that have advised him. "We've got a Congress that is moving our way, we've got a president that's moving our way, and so for Galaxy and the crypto industry, that couldn't be more optimistic," he said on CNBC's "Squawk Box" Wednesday morning. "Those three positions, with someone who's open minded to crypto … changes everything," he said. And all of a sudden we'll start seeing decentralized systems launched and work so this is really a step change." The shift won't happen overnight, Novogratz warned, but as Trump starts to appoint people into various positions of leadership there will be "a substantial shift in the energy of this industry."

Nobody was a bigger winner than Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. Coinbase shares soared 31% on Wednesday, their best day on record, as investors celebrated the company's victorious efforts to get pro-crypto candidates into office. "I am so grateful to Ohioans for their resounding support in this race," Moreno said in a statement Tuesday night. "I look forward to working with the new Republican Senate majority to fix our economy, secure our border, and return to American strength at home and abroad." Former President Donald Trump arrives for his campaign rally at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Doral, Florida, on July 9, 2024. Getting that money required him to make big promises pertaining to the crypto industry. "For too long our government has violated the cardinal rule that every bitcoiner knows by heart: Never sell your bitcoin," Trump said during his keynote speech. Trump pledged to maintain the current level of bitcoin holdings that the U.S. has amassed from seizing assets from financial criminals. "On day one, I will fire Gary Gensler," Trump said, referencing the Joe Biden-appointed SEC chairman who has taken an aggressive approach to crypto regulation.

Elon Musk wins big by betting on Trump

Elon Musk used his money, power, and influence to help reelect former President Donald Trump. Musk has spent months strengthening his ties to Trump, using his platform on X to advocate for him and investing over $130 million in pro-Trump efforts. Some suggested Musk's actions might be a risk-hedging strategy to secure Trump's backing if he wins. AdvertisementWhat a Trump win means for Musk's business empireAside from direct influence within the government, a Trump presidency could lead to a lot of wins for Musk's business empire, which includes Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and X. Coglianese said Musk was also "banking on a president who will want to or be willing to repay Musk for his loyalty."

The West WingOne of Trump’s most important picks will be his White House chief of staff. Karoline Leavitt, who was Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, is being considered as White House press secretary – a job that typically is the most public-facing position in the White House. National security postsTrump has suggested his national security team would be tasked with reassessing the United States’ posture toward Ukraine and Russia, China, Iran, and the simmering conflict in the Middle East. The debate over a renewed Trump’s “America First” agenda is expected to pit Republican national security hawks against the party’s isolationist wing. Secretary of state and national security adviser will be among the most hard-fought positions to stand at the forefront of those shifts.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his business empire stand to reap massive rewards if former President Donald Trump returns to the White House. Elon Musk joins former US President Donald Trump during a campaign event in Butler, Pa., on Oct. 5, 2024. “I love Elon Musk,” Trump said at a rally in July. It’s not clear how Musk and Trump would navigate the ethical questions around a possible government role for the tech billionaire. “He would be in much less trouble in a Trump administration because Trump shares his hostility to regulation and regulators,” Richard Pierce, a law professor at George Washington University specializing in government regulation, told NBC News in an interview earlier this year.

The ETF industry is gearing up for some potentially seismic changes in 2025 and beyond. Policy changes from the SEC are hard to predict, but the ETF industry appears to sense an opening to push new types of products. Private credit funds One big area of focus for the ETF industry is how to tap into the private credit boom that has become a key part of the U.S. financial system. Fund issuers will need the SEC to bless new types of constructions in order to get a private credit fund approved. "For the most part, private credit is an investment that is limited to sophisticated investors and not retail investors," said Brian Murphy, a partner at law firm Stradley Ronon.

Even Warren Buffett thinks his stock is too expensive

CNN —Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has over $325 billion in cash on hand. Berkshire Hathaway was a net seller of stocks across its portfolio that quarter and grew its cash-on-hand to record amounts. Berkshire Hathaway’s actions signal to investors that its stock might be overvalued, Cathy Seifert, an analyst at CFRA Research, told CNN. Buffett will repurchase shares when he thinks the price is “below Berkshire’s intrinsic value, conservatively determined,” according to Berkshire Hathaway’s regulatory filings. “All this suggests that Buffett has serious concerns about the economic backdrop and the current state of the stock market,” Mould said in a note.

The pro-crypto and bi-partisan super PAC Fairshake said Monday that the committee and its affiliates have raised $78 million for the 2026 midterm elections. That $78 million includes more than $30 million raised, plus another $48 million in new commitments from centralized crypto exchange Coinbase and Silicon Valley venture fund Andreessen Horowitz, among other companies. All in, a16z has given $70 million to Fairshake as the VC looks to support the PAC's larger mission of building a Congress comprised of pro-crypto legislators. With Republicans favored to win the Senate, Harris may have few opportunities to pursue an ambitious legislative agenda, shifting the Democratic ideological fight to key personnel decisions. “It’d be a strategic blunder for Harris to pick an ugly fight over Lina Khan’s future when there’s already strong consensus among Democrats. Moderate senators like Bob Casey and Jackie Rosen are actively campaigning on the FTC’s work to lower prices,” said a Senate Democratic aide, who was granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive subject. Removing her would not only infuriate the left but it could provoke a confirmation fight with Senate Republicans over her replacement. Some in the progressive movement believe Harris should simply leave her there without going through confirmation again in the Senate if need be.

RIYADH — Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson said the firm is focused on doing right by its clients, in her first public comments after the company saw its worst quarter for financial outflows in its history and the Securities and Exchange Commission started a probe into suspicious trading at its fixed-income unit. Franklin Templeton's fixed-income business has also dealt with years of underperformance, which many investors expected to reverse course as money moves into bonds and other fixed-income products, which make up about 30% of the firm's assets. Johnson told CNBC Wednesday that the issue with Western Asset Management was damaging, but stressed that it stemmed from an isolated case, and that supporting clients was Franklin Templeton's top focus. "We've had an issue at Western which is isolated to an individual and a subset of strategies, but there's definitely been outflows in those strategies," Johnson told CNBC's Dan Murphy in Riyadh. "I mean, the good news — Western has a significant amount of other strategies that are outside of this and have a lot of global clients there, but we've definitely been hurt by the issues on those three strategies."

Here are some of the ways Bank of America analysts think the upcoming election results could affect the stock market. Harris presidency, split government A victory for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the White House, plus a Republican-controlled Congress, could be "the best outcome" for online media companies, according to Bank of America analyst Justin Post. He noted that Harris is likely to enforce a potential ban on TikTok — which could boost Meta Platforms and Snapchat . Trump president, split government A win for Republican candidate Donald Trump and a split government would be the best-case scenario for bank stocks, per analyst Ebrahim Poonawala. On the other hand, a Trump presidency would be viewed positively by gig-economy companies, including Uber and Lyft, according to analyst Post.
