Vem Miller, the man arrested near former President Donald Trump’s rally Saturday in Coachella, California, denied in an online video Monday that he was trying to assassinate Trump. Miller, 49, of Nevada, who was arrested on state weapons charges a quarter-mile from the rally, said he is a longtime supporter of Trump. He said that he was invited to the rally by Republican officials in Nevada and that “false and defamatory statements have been released by the police in the region.”“I’m a Trump caucus captain. I’ve collected votes for Donald Trump, and I’m also a Trump team leader,” Miller said in the video. “The U.S. Secret Service assesses that the incident did not impact protective operations and former President Trump was not in any danger,” Martin Estrada, the U.S. attorney for Central California, said Sunday.

“I believe there was 100% negligence on the Secret Service, probably everybody involved in setting that security, down to inter-department communications,” Dutch said. “The negligence was vast. The Justice Department said Sunday that the Secret Service and the FBI are investigating the incident in Coachella, California, about a quarter-mile from the rally venue. A Secret Service official said in a statement: "We were contacted as it happened and Secret Service agents conducted a productive intelligence interview. Asked about the arrest, a Trump campaign official appeared unaware of the incident. On July 13, a gunman hit Trump in the ear and fatally shot a man at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He said the entry process also included getting past metal detectors at a Secret Service pedestrian checkpoint at the entrance.

Zients also made clear that President Joe Biden had directed the Secret Service to provide the highest level of protection for Trump, the source said. City officials haven't yet tallied up what the Trump campaign owes Erie for public safety costs for his most recent rally in September. The five localities that spoke to NBC News have sent their bills to the Trump campaign. Four years later, the Trump campaign hasn't paid. Wiles then made the formal request for additional security with acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe on September 30, according to an email reviewed by CNN. The requests from Trump’s campaign also include access to Camp David vehicles for Trump’s primary motorcade as well as access to other military assets, such as drones with thermal monitoring. Security resources are also often determined on a case-by-case basis, one administration official said. The Secret Service has increased its presence around Trump, adding members to his detail and taking extra precautions, often traveling with a counter assault team. Secret Service agents previously assigned to desk jobs or other posts also have also been brought into the rotation to protect Trump.
