Read previewGerman startup Ceezer, which helps companies plan, buy, and manage their carbon credit portfolio, has just raised 10.3 million euros, around $11.2 million, in Series A funding. Carbon credit marketplaces and accounting tools boomed in 2021 as large companies rushed to understand and offset their emissions. They were all vying for a slice of the projected $250 billion voluntary carbon market by 2050 , where private companies buy and sell carbon credits. Carbon credits are typically bought after achieving their stated impact, but this requires project developers to have cash upfront to get started, Drewelies said. AdvertisementThe fresh funding, led by HV Capital, will be used to launch new financial products so that project developers can unlock pre-financing.

The only founders who do it successfully share one trait in common: the resilience to navigate a rocky path filled with unforeseen twists and turns. That's a key lesson that Catalina Daniels and James Sherman took from researching for their new book, "Smart Startups: What Every Entrepreneur Needs to Know — Advice from 18 Harvard Business School Founders." "Having resilience is absolutely essential [for] the emotional makeup of a person in terms of becoming an entrepreneur," Sherman tells CNBC Make It. "If they don't have that type of resilience, they need to learn how to build it up." In fact, every founder the authors spoke to agreed that resilience was the biggest key to their success, even more than prior experience or a winning business idea.

Cloud computing platform DigitalOcean is at an attractive entry point, according to Goldman Sachs. Analyst Gabriela Borges upgraded DigitalOcean to buy from sell and maintained her price target of $33, which implies the stock could jump 38.4% over the next 12 months. Borges cited the stock's significant underperformance — DigitalOcean is up nearly 6% this year, while the Nasdaq Composite has gained 30% — as an opportunity for investors. The underperformance has likely been driven by a cyclical normalization in cloud optimization spending, according to Borges. Borges noted overhang from DigitalOcean's ongoing search for a new CEO since late August.
