Bitcoin charged to new highs on Tuesday, but then retreated about 14%, sending a scare into the market. I've been following the bitcoin story for 10 years now, opened my first Coinbase account back in 2014 and bought bitcoin at $330. Are tech stocks — like semiconductors — acting as a leading indicator for bitcoin, signaling a sustained move through the highs? Higher rates and a higher dollar put downward pressure on U.S. tech stocks and bitcoin due to their positive correlation demonstrated above. As a result, tech stocks and Bitcoin are rallying.

The World(MSCI All Country World Index weighting)Entire U.S. stock market: 63%Japan, UK, Canada, France, Hong Kong/China combined: 17.5%Magnificent 7: 17%Source: Dimensional FundsThat seems crazy, no? For example, in the mid-1960s the concentration of the top 10 was over 40% of the S&P 500. Investors who own the S&P 500 don't have to pick those winners; they just go along for the ride. Second, U.S. stocks are global market leaders, and when a small group becomes market leaders it almost always means the U.S. stock market outperforms the world. The U.S. stock market, which was roughly 40% of the global market capitalization a short while ago, is now roughly 50% of global market capitalization.

But can the momentum continue for AI stocks continue? But our estimates could prove to be conservative in light of recent developments like Open AI's text-to-video model Sora and management commentary from Nvidia," Marcelli said. Both Microsoft and Alphabet reported increased cloud revenue growth thanks to AI, and revenue from their AI models and applications should see significant growth in the next five years, she said. "Given the strong AI-related tailwinds, we see 18% year-over-year earnings growth in 2024 for the global tech sector, including information technology and internet," Marcelli said. 2 trades to ride the AI waveTo take advantage of further AI upside, Marcelli said UBS prefers two market subsectors: semiconductors and software.

Where markets go next may well depend on how Nvidia does after going forward. "The answer here will depend on NVDA," Tom Essaye of The Sevens Report wrote in a Thursday note. "The stock is at an all-time high ... and if it can hold (or extend) this rally ... it'll imply that tech can help lead this market higher." Nvidia and other artificial intelligence darlings, including Meta Platforms, powered the broader market last year, while other stocks underperformed. I'd rather take it elsewhere in something that hasn't had as much of a run as Nvidia has."

Several chart analysts are worried stocks are showing signs of exhaustion after their recent rally. Even there, however, we started to see some cracks last week as upside exhaustion also showed itself," Krinsky added. JC O'Hara, chief market technician at Roth MKM, wrote: "This persistence of gains is rare, and we are seeing signs that leadership is feeling exhaustion." Semiconductor stocks have been on a tear for more than a year, led by Nvidia , which has emerged as a leading stock in the excitement around artificial intelligence. That has helped the S & P 500 enter a new bull market and made the chipmakers an increasingly influential part of the major market indexes. "The % weight of the Semiconductors within the S & P 500 is now at nearly 9%. For example, the best-performing fund in the category so far this year is the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) . Just over two months ago, the S&P 500 was at a breaking point. After Keller's call, the S&P 500 rose nearly 6% in six weeks. The S&P 500 was stuck in purgatory for weeks, barely budging from the 4,769 level at which it entered 2024. David Keller, StockCharts.comExpect the S&P 500 to heat up heading into the summerDespite stocks' shaky near-term prospects, Keller believes their medium-term outlook is rosy. In all likelihood, Keller said the S&P 500 will regain momentum after a near-term hiccup and push toward the 5,000 milestone in April, May, or June.

Millennial homebuyers aren't just leaving the urban core — they're moving to the farthest reaches of the suburbs. The 'youthification' of cities and far-flung suburbsFor nearly two decades millennials morphed dense, amenity-rich urban neighborhoods across America into exclusive playgrounds for the young and childless. Compared with Gen Xers and baby boomers, a much larger share of millennials moved to cities in their young adulthood — and stayed for longer. The pandemic only steepened a trend that's been ousting millennials from cities for years: rising housing costs in cities. Millennials could help transform suburban sprawl into town-like communities or small cities with more third places and a stronger sense of community, Panova says.

UBS is getting more bullish on the outlook for artificial intelligence and bracing for another prosperous year for the "tech theme of the decade." The firm lifted its revenue forecast for AI by 40%. In comparison, it took the smart devices industry more than 10 years for its revenues to grow by 15 times. "Meanwhile, software, with broadening AI demand trends from applications and models, is a defensive play, thanks to its strong recurring revenue base." Within the semiconductor industry, UBS favors logic, memory, capital equipment and foundry names, while companies exposed to office productivity, cloud and models appear best situated in software.

While contending with these challenges in the third quarter, the billionaire fund manager sold of his holdings in the three chip stocks. In the same vein, Loeb raised the size of his Microsoft stake by 46% in the third quarter. Oct 27 (Reuters) - Bargain hunting drove investors to exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking technology companies after shares fell sharply on mixed earnings from heavyweights. The fund's price fell nearly 4% in the week, as mixed results from megacaps like Alphabet (GOOGL.O) weighed on the sector. Tech funds saw inflows of $2 billion in the week to Wednesday, their largest in eight weeks, according to BofA Global Research, which it attributed to investors "buying the dip". The $14 billion ProShares UltraPro QQQ (TQQQ.O) posted net weekly inflows of $68.15 million, even as the price of the fund fell 9.5%. The $46.5 billion Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund and the $9 billion VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH.O) posted net inflows of $205.7 million and $280.6 million, respectively, for the week.

This historic weakness is well-enshrined in stock market lore and encapsulated in the old chestnut, "Sell Rosh Hashana and buy Yom Kippur." Triple witching refers to each quarter's simultaneous expiration of stock index futures and options and individual stock options. It may be true we are in a bull market, but it is certainly not a typical one. Instead of trying to pick winners, Marks sensibly proposes the opposite: You might also achieve that goal — of producing alpha, or outperformance — by holding fewer of the losers. That is why the vast majority of active stock pickers continue to underperform the market, and why money continues to flow into passive index funds.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Newly publicly traded company Arm Holdings is poised to be added to popular indexes such as the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100, although inclusion in the S&P 500 is unlikely, analysts said. Shares of the British chip designer closed up 24.7% in their Nasdaq debut on Thursday, giving it a market value of $65 billion. “The Nasdaq 100 is the most likely widely followed index for the company to get added into,” said Todd Rosenbluth, Head of Research at VettaFi. However, inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 may take time for Arm shares. Inclusion of Arm shares in the S&P 500, which is the standard benchmark for the U.S. stock market, is far less certain, analysts said.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company licenses its processorIPO and tech enthusiasts are excited about the Arm Holdings Plc initial pubic offering, and with good reason: it's the first big tech IPO in more than two years. However, some investors who would like to get immediate exposure to the Arm IPO through ETFs may be disappointed. However, this particular IPO highlights several difficulties that even large companies like Arm have in acquiring a broader ownership base through ETFs. The first problem is that Arm is not a U.S. company, it's British — which generally would exclude it from the S&P indexes.
