Jagger says that while he doesn’t enjoy dealing with the business aspect of the music industry, it’s necessary. When asked if there were plans to sell their post 1971 music catalog to make even more money, Jagger said no. The rocker added that his “children don’t need $500 million to live well” and suggested may donate his fortune to charity some day, according to the publication. Jagger’s eight kids, Karis, Jade, Elizabeth, James, Georgia May, Lucas, Gabriel and Deveraux, range in age six to 52. “You can have a posthumous business now, can’t you?” he said.

Long before he became an award-winning filmmaker, Lynn Lynn was already a star. His voice was ubiquitous on the radio, belting out rock songs, and he played sold-out shows in stadiums across the country. But all that fame was confined to Myanmar, a country he had to flee after a February 2021 military coup. He was also close to the country’s now-imprisoned civilian leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, having once served as her bodyguard. Now living in the Thai city of Mae Sot, bordering Myanmar, the 39-year-old rocker has taken on a new identity: refugee.

In Detroit, a Tiny Home Generates a Big Controversy

The Tiny Homes, as they’re known, were built by a nonprofit group and have marble shower stalls, granite kitchen countertops and solar panels. They are intended for low-income residents who pay monthly rent of $1 per square foot, plus electricity, with the option to own the home outright after seven years. To date, there are 25 in a three-block area, occupied by residents that include seniors and people formerly homeless and incarcerated, and who earn as little as $7,000 annually. The first set opened in 2017, and construction is slated to begin this fall on a half dozen or so houses on a patch of empty land nearby. The project, which is owned and operated by Cass Community Social Services of Detroit, has been built through fund-raising from foundations and private donors, including rocker Jon Bon Jovi.

Aug 2 (Reuters) - An electric guitar once owned by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is among the top lots to be sold at Kruse GWS Auction later this month, and could fetch upward of $200,000. "I think we are going to see some great activity on that guitar," said lead auctioneer, Brigitte Kruse. "I would expect this one to probably fall in the couple of hundred thousand range conservatively," Kruse said. The “Artifacts of Hollywood & Music” online sale, on August 26, will feature over 350 lots from singers, actors and movie costumes. A $220 light switch is popular among ultrawealthy homeowners, The New York Times reported. The light switch is part of the growing quiet luxury trend. But a $220 light switch probably wasn't on your stealth wealth bingo card. Typical light switches, which can sell for just a few dollars, have hardly been described in such a way. While the light switch, on its own, doesn't function as a dimmer, dimmers can be added as additions alongside the switch, per the Forbes & Lomax website.

[1/5] Yevhen Hnatok, 22, former Ukrainian serviceman, shows an unmanned ground vehicle, with his patches, in workshop, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, in Kyiv region, Ukraine, July 5, 2023. Among the Ukrainian engineers working in the sector is 22-year-old Yevhen Hnatok, who said he had already supplied several dozen remote-controlled ground vehicles for the armed forces. As more experimental technologies are introduced onto the battlefield, small-scale engineers like Hnatok are hoping to influence the war's outcome with Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) that carry weapons and explosives or conduct reconnaissance. The impact of combat UGVs from both sides has been extremely limited so far, according to Samuel Bendett, senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security. Hnatok said he does not profit from his vehicles, but asks his military buyers to cover production costs.

“Speak Now,” from 2010, was Taylor Swift’s third album, and it is now the third to be rereleased as a rerecorded “Taylor’s Version.” But all along, the album was a declaration of independence: It was the first she wrote entirely on her own, as a rebuttal to critics — perhaps like the one she cuts down on the sugary, spicy “Mean” — who suggested that Swift’s co-writers had a bigger hand in her previous successes than she’d let on. “Speak Now” remains one of Swift’s best and most sharply penned albums: The line “You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter,” from the chorus of the great opening track “Mine,” is often held up as an example of Swift’s lyricism at its most expertly concise. But “Speak Now” is an album of excesses, too; some of them are glorious — like the epic kiss-off “Dear John” or the romantic grandiosity of “Enchanted” — and some of them are the authentic artifacts of a 19-year-old’s somewhat myopic sensibility. “Mean,” which punches down, is guilty of that, and so is the acidic rocker “Better Than Revenge,” which has the most significantly revised lyrics in a “Taylor’s Version.” “He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches,” Swift sings on this 2023 update, a clumsier and less direct lyric than the original: “She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.” The change is unfortunate, and perhaps the beginning of a slippery slope of self-editing. The previous lyric was sanctimonious and nasty, yes, but it was also a historical document of Swift’s point of view at 19, and that of many young women who, being raised in a misogynistic society, are taught to blame the other girl before they learn how to curse “the patriarchy.” LINDSAY ZOLADZ

Tina Turner, a Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll Covers

Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones got the treatment, too, and so did “Louie Louie,” with a sultry, little-known rendition which — I’m not even making this up — louielouie.net (“The blog for all things Louie Louie”) called “one of the essential Louie Louie recordings!” with some all-caps emphasis. Tina Turner was a seismic, once-in-a-lifetime musical force, but I don’t need to tell you that; I’ll let this playlist do the talking. And I’ll let my colleague Wesley Morris, who wrote an appraisal worthy of the queen, do some of it too: “They’re saying she was 83? It shot from her — from her feet, thighs, hands, arms, shoulders, out of her hair, out of her mouth.”Listen along on Spotify as you read. “Gimme, gimme, gimme a honky tonk man.” (Listen on YouTube)
The justices upheld a lower court's ruling that Warhol's works based on Goldsmith's 1981 photo were not immune from her copyright infringement lawsuit. Warhol, who died in 1987, was a foremost participant in the pop art movement that germinated in the 1950s. At issue in the litigation involving Goldsmith was Warhol's "Orange Prince" series. She countersued the Andy Warhol Foundation in 2017 after it asked a court to find that the works did not violate her copyright. Under that standard, the circuit court said Warhol's paintings were closer to adapting Goldsmith's photo in a different medium than transforming it.

Mark Stewart, Fiery British Rocker, Is Dead at 62
  + stars: | 2023-04-28 | by ( Alex Williams | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Mark Stewart, the incendiary frontman of the British post-punk band the Pop Group, whose explosive mix of funk, noise rock, free jazz experimentalism and anti-authoritarian rage made a mockery of the group’s sunny name, died on April 21. The Pop Group emerged in Bristol, England, in 1977, as punk rock was shaking the foundations of the British music scene. Mr. Stewart found inspiration in punk’s iconoclastic fury. “There is the arrogance of power,” he once said, “and what we got from punk was the power of arrogance.”Onstage, the band created a cyclone force that put many punk bands to shame. The lyrics include these lines:We are all prostitutesEveryone has their priceEveryoneAnd you too will have to learn to live the lie
If “Mean Streets,” “Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull” and “Goodfellas” had never existed, Martin Scorsese would still occupy an exalted place in American cinema, strictly for his documentaries. His films on The Band, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, New York City, Italian opera and Fran Lebowitz constitute a singular catalog of movies, all of which are purely entertaining while exploring the complicated space where public image, art and personal history co-exist. Mr. Scorsese’s evident interests as a nonfiction filmmaker come together in “Personality Crisis: One Night Only,” his study of a less-than-obvious subject— David Johansen , onetime New York Doll and proto-punk rocker, who for several decades has also performed as Buster Poindexter , pompadoured lounge lizard and crooner of standards, novelty songs and the work of David Johansen. This is how Mr. Scorsese, credited as co-director with David Tedeschi , frames this portrait of a New York institution: during an early 2020 gig at the upscale Café Carlyle (which Mr. Poindexter refers to as a “boîte” and a “joint”), where the alter ego performs the work of the original.

As part of the settlement, he banned Hall from giving story ideas to the "Succession" writing team, according to Vanity Fair. The report comes amid ongoing turmoil within the Murdoch family in selecting a successor to News Corporation, the multi-billion dollar media company created and led by Murdoch, now 91. The Murdoch family largely served as inspiration for the HBO hit show "Succession."
