“The impact on Delta passengers was disastrous,” the lawsuit said. In other cases, it would only offer partial reimbursement if passengers signed a waiver releasing the airline of any legal claims. On Monday, July 22, Delta canceled more than 1,250 flights — making up nearly 70% of all domestic cancellations, the lawsuit said. In response, Delta offered Plaintiff a $100 voucher to use towards a future flight with Delta,” the lawsuit said. Both companies claimed Delta ignored their repeated offers for help as passengers were left stranded in airports across the country.

The door plug was removed at the Boeing factory in Renton, Washington, last September so that problems with some rivets could be repaired. But the necessary paperwork for that temporary door plug removal was apparently never created. But under questioning from the NTSB Lund admitted that it’s not clear who and when that door plug was put in place. “Are you 100% sure there will never be an unauthorized removal (of a door plug)?” Homendy asked. Asked if he could promise there will not be another door plug improperly installed, Silva answer, “I cannot make a promise or guarantee of that.

Disney may have a parks problem

New York CNN —Disney Parks are the latest business to face slowing consumer demand in the face of higher prices. Disney’s parks business underperformed expectations and profit fell somewhat last quarter. It’s not just Disney that’s seeing a pullback — Bank of America Institute reported credit card transactions on travel ticked down in June. Disney’s domestic parks and international parks and cruises, though, are seeing different results: Disney’s international parks had increases in attendance and more rooms booked. The company noted that attendance at the parks was comparable to this time last year and spending per guest was up.

New York CNN —Elon Musk’s X has accused a group of major advertisers of antitrust violations in a new lawsuit claiming the group conspired to “boycott” advertising on the platform. The lawsuit claims an influential ad industry group organized “to collectively withhold billions of dollars in advertising from Twitter” because the group was concerned that the platform had deviated from brand safety standards after Musk’s acquisition in late 2022. The lawsuit is the latest effort by X to revive its core ad business, which has tanked since Musk’s takeover. It’s not the first time X has filed a lawsuit related to its declining ad business. The suit accuses Media Matters of distorting how likely it is for ads to appear beside extremist content on X.

But Gibbs said Taco Bell is outperforming its rivals in the fast food industry. “I think we’re really seeing Taco Bell stand out from the crowd,” he said to investors. Of the three, only Taco Bell’s US same-store sales grew in the second quarter of 2024, at 5%. The earnings call highlighted how fast food and fast casual chains are struggling to retain customers who believe it is cheaper to just eat at home.

New York CNN —A US safety regulator announced Tuesday that it voted unanimously to hold Amazon responsible for faulty or unsafe products sold by third-parties on its website and app. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, tasked with ordering companies to recall dangerous products sold in America, said it found more than 400,000 defective products sold on Amazon’s platform that the online retailer now must recall or face legal consequences. The ruling today underlines the CPSC’s crackdown on products it views as unsafe. The agency first sued the mega-retailer in 2021, when it said it was cracking down on Amazon because it has limited ability to force a recall of foreign products. Amazon claims in a statement when it was notified about the potential safety issues, it “swiftly notified customers, instructed them to stop using the products, and refunded them.”CNN’s Chris Isidore contributed to this report.

New York CNN —An activist hacking group claimed it leaked thousands of Disney’s internal messaging channels, which included information about unreleased projects, raw images computer codes and some logins. Nullbulge, the “hacktivist group,” claimed responsibility for the breach and said they leaked a gigantic, roughly 1.2 terabytes of information from Disney’s Slack, a communications software. In an email on Monday to CNN, the group claimed it gained access through “a man with Slack access who had cookies.” The email also claimed the group was based out of Russia. New York CNN —If you were an AT&T cellphone customer in 2022, your call data was possibly breached to bad actors. AT&T said Friday that data was breached from “nearly all” of its cellular customers and the customers of wireless providers that used its network between May 1, 2022, and October 31, 2022. The records of a “very small number” of customers from January 2, 2023, were also breached, AT&T said. What they did get is metadata — call logs that contain a record of every number AT&T customers called or texted (including customers of other wireless networks), the number of times they interacted and the call duration. The age of artificial intelligence makes this even more pressing, according to Collin Walke, cybersecurity and data privacy partner at Hall Estill.

New York CNN —Higher prices have gone too far even for salty snacks. PepsiCo’s snack unit Frito-Lay posted a dip in revenue in its second quarter Thursday after multiple quarters of price increases. While inflation has slowed down, American customers still haven’t recovered from higher prices in everyday categories like snacks. Certain products, like unsalted potato chips or tortilla chips, could see a “value reset” and have lower prices, Laguarta said. The company said it would offer broader price tiers, using its variety multipacks that are often cheaper per bag, as an example.
