Britain's Finance Minister Rachel Reeves has pledged to make the "necessary", "urgent" and "incredibly tough" choices to restore the country's economic stability. Britain's Finance Minister Rachel Reeves on Monday announced a raft of project cuts after detailing how the newly elected Labour government has inherited a projected overspend of £22 billion ($28.2 billion) from the center-right Conservatives. The finance minister also said she had canceled plans to sell NatWest shares to the public, saying the proposal put forward by her predecessor Jeremy Hunt did not "represent value for money." Britain's finance chief has previously ruled out increases to income tax, national insurance, VAT or corporation tax — the main sources of government revenues. However, Reeves must orchestrate a delicate balance act given the pledges from her party to also boost national investment and public sector pay.

Even though floods have impacted 99% of US counties over the past 28 years, only 4% of homeowners have flood insurance. For those without flood insurance, FEMA provided $4,400 on average. Individuals and communities both have roles to play in building financial resilience to disasters. These Community Disaster Resilience Zones qualify for reduced local costs and additional technical assistance. LONDON — U.K. Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said Friday that the new Labour government would be the most pro-growth and pro-business the country has seen. Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesBEIJING — China's real estate problems may be massive, but analysts expect the upcoming Third Plenum to focus on other areas — such as high local government debt levels and a push for advanced manufacturing. "For real estate markets, I don't think it should be a focus of the plenum, because it's already [in a] state that everyone has a consensus [on]," Wang said. watch nowIn his view, excessive growth of the financial sector was behind the hollowing out of the U.S. industrial sector. "Consequently we must constrain the financial industry, including real estate. That's the underlying reason for tightened regulations on both real estate and finance."

The industry has historically had higher rates of quits and job openings than the overall labor market, per the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. LONDON — Goldman Sachs on Friday upgraded its growth forecast for the U.K. after the Labour Party's thumping victory in the country's general election. The investment bank said in a note released early Friday morning that it expected Labour's fiscal policy agenda to provide a "modest boost to demand growth in the near-term" and raised its gross domestic product (GDP) forecasts for the U.K. by 0.1 percentage points in 2025 and 2026 to 1.6% and 1.5% respectively. "Reforms to the planning system could boost housebuilding and productivity; higher public sector investment could lift potential output; and closer trade ties with the EU could mitigate some of the costs of Brexit," Goldman Sachs economists said in the note.

AdvertisementAs the way we save for retirement has evolved, some people are now cashing in on the golden age for retirement savings — when benefits were more generous and investments in real estate and stocks boomed. While it's still possible to achieve, a fat retirement account has become rarer. AdvertisementBack in 2007, per GAO's calculations of the Survey of Consumer Finances, around 21% of low-income households had a retirement account balance. While losses weren't as profound for those in the middle-income quintile, their retirement account balances did fall slightly from 2007 to 2019. All of that comes as retirement savings become more of an individual onus.

In fact, for many if not most jobs, there are no legal prohibitions on hiring those with criminal records. And when a criminal record of any kind turns up, that can kill a person’s chances, regardless of how well-qualified they may be for a position, either because an employer has a high aversion to risk or a bias against those with a record, Love said. Or the paperwork and time required to get approval for someone with a criminal record may be such that an employer simply decides to look at candidates without a record. “Sometimes people believe they are required to turn my clients down because of a criminal conviction. That law provides for eligible conviction records to be automatically “sealed,” meaning they should no longer show up on employer background checks.

New Delhi CNN —India’s relentless heat wave killed 33 poll workers as the country concluded its final day of voting in the world’s largest general election, officials said, underscoring the impact of searing temperatures in recent days. Voters and election workers have endured an extended period of unusually high temperatures across much of the country’s north as India voted in a seven-phase election that began on April 19. Of that number, at least 43 were election workers, authorities said. The capital territory of Delhi sweltered to its highest-ever temperature of 49.9 degrees Celsius (121.8 degrees Fahrenheit) last week, as the oppressive heat wave forced authorities to impose water rationing. “Heat wave conditions over Northwest, Central & East India are likely to continue with reduced intensity during next 3 days,” the Indian Meteorological Department said on Sunday.
