If you have a flexible spending account, you could be facing a use-it-or-lose-it deadline to spend down those funds before the end of the year. Flexible spending accounts, or FSAs, allow workers to set aside pre-tax money to pay for qualified medical or dependent care expenses. About 70% of FSA account holders have a Dec. 31 deadline to spend their funds, according to FSA Store, an online retailer for FSA-eligible products. However, it's important to note that for many other FSA account holders, neither of those options apply, Rouleau said. If that's the case, "you really want to make sure you're tracking to Dec. 31 and spending down your funds appropriately before that date," Rouleau said.

It's impossible to remember every single thing, but how do we know if our forgetfulness is harmless or a sign of serious brain issues on the horizon? Dr. Richard Restak has written more than 20 books about the brain. In "The Complete Guide to Memory: The Science of Strengthening Your Mind," he dives into normal memory lapses versus serious memory concerns. Let's say "you drive to a shopping center to get a particular item, and you go in to buy the item. But if you "couldn't remember whether you came by car or whether you took a bus or somebody dropped you off, that would be abnormal.

Gut health is a key cornerstone of our overall health as it can affect many bodily systems. Emily Leeming, a gut health expert and dietitian, sees her breakfast as a chance to boost her fiber intake. A gut health scientist and dietitian shared the two breakfasts she often eats to help boost her gut microbiome. Leeming's oats contain lots of gut-loving ingredients. Chia seeds feature about 30 grams of fiber per 100 grams, and berries tend to be higher in fiber than other fruits because they contain seeds, she said.

Whether you choose to drink or not is an individual decision. “Alcohol does a lot of things: the reaction time impact, the motor coordination impact, the impact on judgment — these are all legitimate pharmacological effects of alcohol,” he said. Members of one group were told they were getting drinks with alcohol, and they did; participants in a second group were told they were getting alcohol-free drinks, and they did. For those who thought they were getting alcohol but didn’t, the group dynamic appeared quite active, according to Kilmer. If you do make the choice to drink, he suggested lessening alcohol’s impact by alternating each alcoholic drink with a glass of water.

Sen. Bernie Sanders says Amazon's focus on speed leads to "uniquely dangerous" workplaces. In a new report, which Amazon disputes, Sanders says its injury rates are worse than it lets on. Only 40% of Amazon's warehouses have that number of workers, it said. The comparison is likely more favorable as "the injury rate for the subcategory of large warehouses is consistently higher than the overall injury rate for the entire warehousing industry," according to the report. The report attributed much of the elevated injury rates to Amazon's "obsession with productivity and speed," which it said drives workers beyond safe limits.

New York CNN —Amazon is disregarding its own research that shows warehouse employees are facing an increased injury threat due to its focus on productivity, according to Senate investigators. The Senate report released Sunday said the company forces workers to repeat the same movements hundreds, if not thousands, of times each shift, resulting in extremely high rates of injury to their muscles and joints. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration proposed fines totaling $100,000 in 2023 citing conditions that exposed workers to ergonomic hazards. Bing Guan/Bloomberg/Getty ImagesAn Amazon internal report cited by Senate investigators, titled Project Soteria, found there was a relationship between the speed of tasks that workers performed and their rate of injury. Project Soteria recommended changing speed-related discipline and time-off policies to reduce injury rates.
