Earlier, second seed Medvedev had an easier than expected 6-4 6-3 semi-final win over familiar rival Alexander Zverev. This was the fifth meeting between the pair this year and although Russian world number three Medvedev won three of the previous four, Zverev had won their most recent clash in Cincinnati. The American's frequent doubles partner Jessica Pegula also had to dig deep for a 6-7(2) 6-2 6-1 win over Anna Blinkova. The 29-year-old faces 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko seeking a fourth win in their fifth meeting. World number two Iga Swiatek progressed with a 6-4 6-1 win over Varvara Gracheva and fifth seed Elena Rybakina beat Tatjana Maria 7-5 6-0 after Ons Jabeur lost 7-6(5) 6-1 to Marta Kostyuk.

BARCELONA, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Barcelona moved provisionally top of LaLiga with a 1-0 home win over Sevilla on Friday after veteran defender Sergio Ramos accidentally bundled the ball into his own net in the second half. But a loud cheer rang out at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium, Barca's temporary home ground, after the 37-year-old's own goal. "When the opponent accumulates so many people in the box it's very difficult to defend for so long without making a mistake. Sergio (Ramos) was there to clear the ball, it was a whimsical goal," said Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mendilibar. The result moved Barca one point clear of Girona, who are second with a game in hand, while Sevilla are 12th.

A thrilling fourballs session was going the way of the Americans as they led in three matches deep into the back nine. But Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm and veteran Justin Rose ensured Europe won it 2-1/2 to 1-1/2, with three matches that went all the way to the 18th. "That was my moment there on the 18th -- I've made us a lot of points but I haven't had many moments like that so that was immense," Rose, playing his sixth Ryder Cup, said. Hovland was majestic as he and Aberg, the first Ryder Cup player not to contest a major, proved too hot for Homa and Harman to handle in match two. Matt Fitzpatrick, playing with McIlroy, earned his first Ryder Cup point in stunning fashion with four birdies and an eagle in an early blitz that Morikawa and Schauffele never recovered from, losing 5&3.

Napoli say they never intended to offend Osimhen amid row

Sept 28 (Reuters) - Napoli said on Thursday they never intended to offend their striker Victor Osimhen with mocking social media videos, but the Serie A champions stopped short of apologising to the Nigeria international. Osimhen's agent Roberto Calenda later threatened legal action, while the 24-year-old player removed all images of himself in a Napoli shirt from his social media accounts. "On social media, and TikTok particularly, expressive language is used in a light-hearted and playful manner. Osimhen helped Napoli end their 33-year wait for a league title last season as he was Serie A's top scorer with 26 goals. The NFL kicks off the first of this season's international games on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London before the series shifts for the first time to Frankfurt for two games starting Nov. 5. NFL Europe, which began in 1991 with 10 teams, shuttered in 2007 and was replaced by regular season NFL games starting with a contest at Wembley in October 2007. "It may have been back at the very first game at Wembley, but now this is a really educated fanbase." About 82% of tickets sold for two London games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month went to fans in the United Kingdom, the NFL said. "The players know what a win means for the country, it can change a lot. Prop Johan Coetzee and wing Gerswin Mouton are therefore the only players to have started all four matches in France.
