He died at the age of 82 last week in an Athens hospital. Royals from Europe, including Britain's Princess Anne, sister of King Charles, and her husband and Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia, were expected to attend the funeral, at the Metropolitan Cathedral in central Athens, under tight security. REUTERS/Alkis KonstantinidisATHENS, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Greece's former King Constantine II, who died on Tuesday night aged 82, will be buried privately at a former royal estate north of Athens, the Greek government said on Wednesday. Deposed by military rulers and spurned by his subjects who voted to ditch the monarchy in 1974, Constantine II was the only son of King Paul and Queen Frederica of Greece. Constantine II, godfather to Britain's Prince William and a second cousin to King Charles, would be buried privately in Tatoi, the summer palace of the former Greek royal family, where his ancestors are also laid to rest, the government said. Constantine II was 27 years old and had only recently ascended to the throne, in 1964, when he was forced into exile with a young family in late 1967.

I flew to Edinburgh the next morning, where the hearse carrying her coffin from Balmoral Castle was expected to arrive two days later. This would be the first moment that the world would see the Queen’s coffin itself, outside of the hearse. After we had waited for hours, the hearse drove down the Royal Mile, the main road leading to Holyroodhouse. The castle gates opened and the hearse stopped outside, where Princess Anne and princes Edward and Andrew were waiting for their mother. When the hearse was opened, soldiers of the Royal Regiment of Scotland lifted out the Queen’s coffin.
LONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - King Charles asked the British parliament on Monday to amend the law to allow two more of his siblings to act on his behalf in his absence, adding them to a group which currently includes his disgraced brother Prince Andrew. That currently means that in addition to Charles's wife Camilla and his eldest son and heir Prince William, the grouping comprises the king's younger son Prince Harry, younger brother Prince Andrew, and Andrew's eldest daughter Princess Beatrice. That has led to criticism from some commentators because neither Andrew nor Harry carry out official royal roles any more. Meanwhile, Harry stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan. The change will require parliament to amend the terms of the Regency Act.
The fifth season of Netflix’s superb, ambitious “The Crown” covers the years from 1988 to early 1997, arguably the nadir of England’s modern monarchy. “The Crown” sets up series creator Peter Morgan to be a 21st- century Shakespeare for the Second Elizabethan era. “The Crown” sets up series creator Peter Morgan to be a 21st-century Shakespeare for the Second Elizabethan era. His retellings of royal life are no more accurate than “Richard II” or “Henry V,” making royal whining all these years later all the sillier. “The Crown” even finds ways to make Charles a sympathetic figure in the divorce, no small feat.

The late monarch's horses won more than 1,800 races and her annual presence at Royal Ascot and the Epsom Derby reflected a deep personal interest as much as carrying out royal duty. "I'm sure if the queen had not been bred into being a monarch she would have found a vocation with horses. Nicky Henderson, another royal trainer, also told the Racing Post how the queen had watched one of her horses win a race on television. The queen's horses won all the British classics with the exception of the Derby, the most prestigious of all. Queen Elizabeth attended every edition of the Royal Windsor Horse Show since its inception 79 years ago, including in May.
