CNN —The body of Audrii Cunningham, an 11-year-old girl who disappeared while on her way to school in Texas, was found Tuesday in the Trinity River, according to Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons. In 2007, he was convicted of enticing a child in Brazoria County, Texas. Sheriff: McDougal took part in search for AudriiMcDougal had joined in the search efforts for the missing girl, the sheriff told CNN earlier Tuesday. “Some of the witnesses have even said that he was in the community and knocking on doors … asking have they seen her,” the sheriff told CNN. NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Times was honored Monday with George Polk Awards for Foreign Reporting and Photojournalism for its coverage of the war between Israel and Hamas. They were among Polk Awards winners announced Monday in 13 categories. In all, five of the prestigious journalism prizes were for coverage of the Israel-Gaza and Russia-Ukraine wars. The winners will be honored in April as the university marks the 75th anniversary of the awards. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Mississippi man accused of destroying a statue of a pagan idol at Iowa's state Capitol is now being charged with a hate crime. The statue was brought to the Capitol by the Satanic Temple of Iowa under state rules allowing religious displays in the building during the holidays. The move drew strong criticism from state and national leaders, including Iowa Gov. In previous court filings, she has accused the Satanic Temple of making filings that "are only meant to evoke strong emotions and incite others.”Cassidy is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 15. Founded in 2013, the Salem, Massachusetts-based Satanic Temple says it doesn’t believe in Satan but describes itself as a “non-theistic religious organization” that advocates for secularism.

The DeSantis and Haley camps each believed they would benefit if the other left the field and created an unambiguous one-on-one race with Trump. In fact, both the Trump and DeSantis campaigns believe that more of the Florida governor’s supporters will likely pick Trump. Any gain or loss for Haley among voters from DeSantis’ decision seems likely to affect the race only marginally, many GOP observers believe. An Iowa teenager who shot and killed two fellow students at an alternative school program for at-risk youths last year and wounded the program’s founder was sentenced on Thursday to 65 years in prison, prosecutors announced. Judge Larry McLellan of the Polk County District Court sentenced Mr. Walls to three consecutive prison terms, one for each charge, totaling 65 years, according to prosecutors. He was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the slain victims’ families, the Polk County Attorney’s Office said in a news release. All three were students at the program and knew each other, The Des Moines Register reported.
