CNN —Israel’s war conduct in Gaza “is consistent with the characteristics of genocide,” including mass civilian casualties and using starvation as a weapon, according to a new United Nations Special Committee report released Thursday. The UN committee added that Israeli officials have publicly supported policies to destroy “vital water, sanitation and food systems” in Gaza as well as prevent access to fuel. The UN Special Committee is composed of three UN member states, including Malaysia, Senegal and Sri Lanka. But the US view is a stark contrast with the bleak picture on the ground, where much of the aid that reaches Gaza is not being distributed. “We have not seen any aid, and no one has sent us food,” 63-year-old Palestinian Umm Muhammad Al-At’out told CNN this week.

The situation has reached a fever pitch as cosmonauts scramble to patch problem areas and officials from Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos, and NASA disagree about the severity of the problem. Looming space station issuesNASA has contingencies in place for crew safety, but the space agency is also grappling with the fact that the leaking Russian module may pose a threat to the safety and longevity of the space station. In addition to Roscosmos, they include the Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Still, it’s not clear whether the commercial destinations will be ready before the space station is forced to retire.

The Onion, the satirical news company that repeatedly spoofed conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, has won the bankruptcy auction for control over his media empire — most notably Infowars, the far-right, conspiracy-minded website that served as Jones’ primary online platform. The Onion plans to shutter Jones’ Infowars and rebuild the website featuring well-known internet humor writers and content creators, according to a person with knowledge of the sale. About an hour and a half after the announcement of the sale, Infowars' website was shut down. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) has been getting a lot of attention, and rightly so. Things have recently accelerated in November, and Tuesday, the IGV Software ETF was one of just three ETFs we track to make new all-time highs. Within the IGV Software ETF, it also has the third biggest weighting, but it's behind both CRM and ORCL. More importantly, MSFT has been noticeably lagging the IGV ETF across various time frames. So far on Wednesday, the stock market was largely ignoring the morning's inflation report because the main CPI reading was as economists expected. But a look deeper into the report spells trouble for a stock market — and president-elect — that are going to want the Federal Reserve to keep cutting rates throughout next year to keep fueling the bull market. However, in recent months, policymakers have focused more on the headline number, saying shelter costs, which have an outsized influence on core CPI, will come down. But core inflation has remained unusually stubborn, suggesting the Fed may have to hold rates higher than investors were previously anticipating. Meta cut the price of its ad-free subscription versions of Facebook and Instagram by 40% for European Union users to comply with regulatory demands in the region. Meta originally debuted an ad-free subscription service for the EU in October 2023 due to an EU regulation intended to clamp down on anti-competitive practices by tech companies. The subscription service also came into effect after regional regulators fined the company over $400 million for violating EU data privacy laws. "The changes we're announcing today meet EU regulator demands and go beyond what's required by EU law," Meta President Nick Clegg said Tuesday on Threads. "This is why I expect that even when presented with several equal choices, most people will still choose our personalized ads service," Pavón said in a LinkedIn post said.

Hawaii is the only US state without any fluoride in municipal taps; fluoridated water is only available there on military bases. As such, fluoridated water is now mandated on any military base with more than 3,300 people. Rumors have circulated that drinking fluoridated water can lead to bone cancer (osteosarcoma), but long-term studies from both the UK and US haven't found any credible evidence of higher rates in areas where people drink fluoridated water. Their review concluded that some studies of fluoride consumption have found links between higher fluoride water levels and lower IQs in kids.
