CNN —A painting discovered by a junk dealer in the basement of an Italian villa six decades ago is actually the work of Pablo Picasso and could sell for millions, according to experts. At just 24, Lo Rosso didn’t appreciate that the signature in the upper left corner of the artwork that read simply “Picasso” meant anything, his son Andrea Lo Rosso told CNN on Tuesday. The older Lo Rosso, who died in 2021, stuck it in a cheap frame and gave it to his wife — much to her chagrin, his son said. JERUSALEM — Almost 12 months of unbridled war, death, destruction and suffering in Gaza have proved the deadliest conflict on record for journalists. One year in, NBC News has spoken to 21 media professionals and organizations in the region who described killings, attacks and arrests by Israeli forces. The majority, 111, were Palestinians killed in Gaza, three were Lebanese and two were Israeli journalists killed by Hamas militants on Oct. 7. I wanted to taste a descendant of those ancient peppers, Peru’s native ají amarillo. Now it was time to learn how this distillation of ají amarillo manifested in local dishes. CNN —An image of a peregrine falcon chasing a butterfly, a vulture feasting on a black bear and a surfing penguin are among the winning images of Bird Photographer of the Year 2024. “We create this impactful display to honor the lives lost and increase public awareness,” Homonylo said in a statement. Will Nicholls, director of Bird Photographer of the Year, told CNN that the competition allows people to view things they may not be able to see for themselves. The title of Young Bird Photographer of the Year was awarded to 14-year-old Spanish photographer Andrés Luis Domínguez Blanco for a vivid image of a nuthatch — a small bird similar to a woodpecker — scrambling down an oak tree in Grazalema in southern Spain. The images cover a huge range of species, environments and behaviors – some are comedic while others carry a serious message.
