Expectations are high for Nvidia's earnings. Momentum behind Nvidia's Blackwell ramp Wall Street majors view Nvidia's Blackwell platform — which should be generally available in the January quarter — as a multibillion-dollar revenue opportunity for the chipmaker. Nvidia had said in August that it expected about "several billion" in Blackwell sales during the January quarter. According to Piper Sandler analyst Harsh Kumar, Nvidia could deliver between $5 billion and $8 billion of Blackwell revenue in the January quarter. Analysts are also largely undeterred by recent concerns about a recent report from The Information that Nvidia's Blackwell NVL-72 server racks are experiencing issues with overheating.

Gary Wang, a former executive of bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, who testified against founder Sam Bankman-Fried, attends his sentencing on fraud charges at the United States District Court in Manhattan in New York City, U.S., November 20, 2024. Wang was also ordered to forfeit $11 billion, the same as the other co-defendants. When given the opportunity to address the court, Wang said he was deeply sorry to all the customers and investors in FTX. Roos also noted that Wang was the first FTX employee to walk through the government's door but the last to be sentenced, as the FTX criminal proceedings come to a close. In March, Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to pay $11 billion — the harshest punishment from Judge Kaplan.

Giraffe populations are declining at such an alarming rate — from habitat loss, poaching, urbanization and climate change-fueled drought — that US wildlife officials announced a proposal on Wednesday to help protect several of the species. The US Fish and Wildlife Service proposed listing many giraffe species as either endangered or threatened. It’s the first time the long-necked mammals, native to Africa, would receive federal protections under the Endangered Species Act. Declaring a species “endangered” is the most severe level of threat under the law, indicating the species is at immediate risk of extinction. The US has become a significant market for giraffe parts and products, importing nearly 40,000 for at least a decade-long period, a 2018 report showed.

Alaska Airlines partnered with Air Space Intelligence to use an AI tool that suggests flight routes. While Air Space Intelligence developed the Flyways AI Platform, it did so in close cooperation with the airline's stakeholders. AI in actionThe partnership between Alaska Airlines and Air Space Intelligence began with a learning period for both organizations. ASI's staff shadowed the airline's dispatchers to learn how they worked, while Alaska Airlines learned more about how a machine-learning algorithm could be used to route traffic. While that might seem low, those accepted routes helped reduce Alaska Airlines' fuel consumption by more than 1.2 million gallons in 2023, according to the airline's annual sustainability report.

Brewing worker resentment could fuel a 2025 quitting spree
  + stars: | 2024-11-20 | by ( Jennifer Liu | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
The job market could be poised for a fresh wave of people quitting, according to a new Glassdoor report. Employees' satisfaction in their career opportunities has been on the decline since 2022 after people settled into new roles following the post-pandemic hiring boom known as the Great Resignation. "People don't feel like the job market is working for them right now, even if you hear economists and policymakers talk about how strong and resilient the job market is," Glassdoor senior economist Daniel Zhao tells CNBC Make It. "The desire [to quit] is there, but the opportunities aren't," Zhao says. For example, some sectors, like housing, real estate and tech, could be buoyed by the Federal Reserve's interest rate cuts, Zhao says.

New York CNN —Sheetz, the gas station and convenience store chain, is slashing prices at some of its pumps ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel period. Sheetz and other chains periodically slash prices to generate buzz and sales, even at the expense of lower profit. Drawing in people with cheap gas could help give convenience store sales a boost. But it’s an odd time to cut gas prices, which are below $3 a gallon in 31 states and hovering at $3.06 a gallon nationally. “Gas prices, after two-plus years of sizzling because of outside factors like Covid and Russia, are finally coming back into balance,” GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan previously told CNN.

Home prices are poised to fall by up to a fifth as the frozen housing market thaws — and that could help baby boomers sell at last and younger people to become homeowners, Meredith Whitney says.
