The race for Democratic Party chair has officially launched with a onetime Maryland governor and unsuccessful presidential candidate Martin O'Malley announcing a bid to take the reins. The contest comes as former DNC Chair Jaime Harrison is leaving his post. One of the people most often cited in Democratic circles as a possibility for DNC chair is Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler. Several DNC members privately said they were already backing Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin. Kleeb is backing Martin for DNC chair, she said, while she is interested in seeking the ASDC chair post that Martin now holds.

WASHINGTON — Congress faces a Dec. 20 deadline to fund the government and avert a shutdown, and Speaker Mike Johnson says House Republicans will probably push the fight into early 2025 rather than reach a full-year funding deal this year. And then then we should be actually working on the next year’s appropriations.”But even if they push the fight to early 2025, Republicans won’t have full control over spending decisions. Government funding legislation is subject to the 60-vote threshold in the Senate, which top Republicans have promised to preserve. That means they’ll have to reach a deal with Democrats, who currently control the Senate and want to pass full-year funding this year, not in 2025. “The bottom line is we’ve got to control spending and not allow there to be a runaway spending bill in December,” he said.

The House Ethics Committee probe into Gaetz, initially launched in 2021, ran into several obstacles, including a lack of access to records collected by a federal criminal investigation into Gaetz. In addition to the House Ethics Committee investigation, Gaetz was separately investigated by the US Justice Department for alleged sex trafficking, obstruction of justice and other potential crimes, but prosecutors declined to bring any charges. The House committee abandoned plans for a closed-door meeting Friday, when lawmakers were expected to consider the release of the report. When asked about the friend’s claim she had sex with Gaetz, Dorworth suggested in the deposition that both women made up their stories. And by the way, I do believe that President Trump has the ability to pick some really, really good people. We've seen what they've done to President Trump, we've seen the attacks that they continue to go after him with. That's - that’s being taken completely out of context. And President Trump hasn't been the one that weaponized the DOJ to go after his political enemies. A voter casts his ballot at a voting station in the fishing village of Ndayane on Nov. 17, 2024, during Senegal's parliamentary elections. Senegal headed to the polls on Sunday to vote in legislative elections that the president hopes will give his party a clear majority and the means to implement an ambitious agenda for reforms. The West African nation saw some of the worst political violence in recent history ahead of the presidential election in March. The new president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has promised to help, but his government is grappling with slower-than-projected growth and a worsening budget deficit. The main threat to his party Pastef's ambitions is the unexpected alliance of two opposition parties, including the Republic party (APR) headed by the former Prime Minister Macky Sall.

But Barnes & Noble would revamp its business model. “The problem with Barnes & Noble when I took it over was that the bookstores themselves weren’t very good,” Daunt told CNN. Foot traffic data for Barnes & Noble show that visits are up by 7% since 2019, according to location analytics company Placer.ai. Iran sent a written message via Swiss diplomats in mid-October saying that it would not seek to kill Donald Trump, according to a U.S. official. Switzerland handles U.S. diplomatic interests in Tehran as Iran and the United States do not have official diplomatic relations. In July, the Biden administration obtained intelligence about an Iranian assassination plot against Trump, and the information led the Secret Service to ramp up security for his campaign. Last week, the Justice Department charged an Iranian man with plotting to assassinate Trump as a part of a murder-for-hire scheme. Officials have found no link between the shooter in that case and the Iranian plot.

According to projections from The Associated Press, Republicans flipped control of the Michigan state House, padded their narrow majorities in the New Hampshire state House and Senate, and maintained their majority in the Pennsylvania state Senate. In Arizona, Republicans appeared poised to expand their narrow majorities in the state House and state Senate, though the AP hasn’t yet called enough races to make that determination. In many districts in both states, Democrats had centered their message on the accomplishments the party achieved with that power. Democrats, however, maintained their 102-101 majority in the Pennsylvania state House — the only bright spot for the party in state legislative chambers where partisan control had been at stake. In addition, Republicans’ victories in state legislative races came even as Democratic groups massively outspent them.
