LOS ANGELES (AP) — For the EDM DJ Steve Aoki, the next frontier is the final one. A trip to outer space makes a lot of sense for the forward-thinking creator, who's releasing “HiROQUEST 2: Double Helix” on Friday. On “HiROQUEST 2: Double Helix,” his story continues, and a new antagonist is introduced. Sonically, “HiROQUEST 2: Double Helix” is a detour from the first release. In the meantime, Aoki says he knows how the “HiROQUEST” saga will end, but he's not telling more.

But for Britney Spears, the endlessly sought after and speculated about pop star who released her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” this week, there was mostly Instagram. In 1994, the 15-year-old Liz Ianelli was sent by her parents to the Family Foundation School in Hancock, N.Y., which claimed to treat her disruptive behavior. Now Ms. Ianelli is an activist and the author of a new memoir, “I See You, Survivor,” which details her ordeal. Some states exempt programs that claim to be religion-based from standards enforced on other child-caring facilities, while some states have few, if any, regulations on these programs. Because more than a dozen states allow spanking and paddling in schools, corporal punishment that would be illegal in prisons occurs in many of these programs. But until Ms. Hilton took up the cause, efforts to protect youth on the federal level had stalled.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked to Verge about the "huge need" for AI versions of celebrities. However, Zuckerberg said AI versions of celebrities could be "more of a 'next year' thing" due to brand safety concerns — as celebrities would want to be certain their image won't be used to make problematic statements. However, not everybody is as optimistic as Zuckerberg and Grimes about the potential of AI in the media. Zuckerberg and Meta did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider, sent outside regular business hours.

“Imagine a hallucinogenic state fair,” the reporter Rick Marin wrote about Burning Man in The New York Times in 2000. The article described an environment of countercultural revelry, where hippies and Silicon Valley types cut loose in surroundings reminiscent of both “Mad Max” and Cirque du Soleil. The event was pummeled by rain that began on Friday night, leaving thousands of attendees trapped and dealing with thick sludge. With limited access to the site, attendees have been told to conserve food and water. The extreme conditions have challenged the free-spirited atmosphere that has long been central to Burning Man’s allure.

I come to you with a breaking news vibes report from Threads, the new Twitter clone that Mark Zuckerberg unveiled on Wednesday. It has already signed up 30 million users, according to Zuckerberg, and appears to be the most rapidly downloaded app ever. “Can’t get enough of your threads,” the actress Jennifer Lopez said in a Threads post. For an app that has caused a lot of drama — Twitter is already threatening legal action — the user experience feels basic, even rote. If there’s a dominant topic of conversation, it’s how weird it is to be on Threads.

But first, it's the summer of succession — and no, we're not talking about the TV show. Wall Street CEOs pretend that succession planning is another chore, like hashing out the annual budget or organizing an earnings call. But behind the boring press announcing their succession plans is often a story of intrigue and drama. And then, of course, there's Jamie Dimon, Wall Street's longest-serving CEO. Earlier this week, Insider highlighted 17 young analysts poised to shine.

A prominent Russian senator with close ties to Putin is increasingly criticizing the war in Ukraine. Sen. Lyudmila Narusova, whose late husband was a mentor to Putin, has been a skeptic of the war since the start. "Nobody has explained how victory is supposed to look," Narusova told an interviewer with Forbes Russia in an April video, according to a translation in The Washington Post. "I think they themselves do not know what they are doing," Narusova told the independent Dozhd channel in February 2022, per The Times. His widow's public defiance is a sign of the worry growing among top Russian officials ahead of Ukraine's much-anticipated counteroffensive.
