Paris CNN —LeBron James made his emphatic return to Olympic basketball on Sunday, turning in a dominant performance in a 110-84 win against Serbia, his first contest at the Games since 2012. James’ 21 points, eight rebounds and nine assists helped provide the spark for Team USA throughout the contest. The first half though was all about Kevin Durant, who scored 21 points on 8-for-8 shooting. Edwards finished with 11 points and five rebounds. It appeared to be the turning point that put Team USA on its way to a blowout win after Serbia hung around for much of the first three quarters of the game.

Roland Garros, Paris CNN —There is a notable absence among Novak Djokovic’s 98 career singles titles, but the Serbian star is hoping to change that over the coming weeks. In the end, Djokovic progressed with ease, potentially setting up a thrilling second-round match against Rafael Nadal. It’s a feat, sometimes described as a career golden slam, only achieved by Steffi Graf and Serena Williams in the women’s game. “Playing in the Olympic Games is very rare for us tennis players,” Djokovic told reporters, ”and of course for anybody, as it comes every four years. The early stages of the match were particularly one-sided, with Djokovic taking the first set with back-to-back aces in just 24 minutes.

Roland Garros, Paris CNN —After all these years, Rafael Nadal is still finding new ways to win matches on his favorite tennis court. The victory against two seasoned doubles players was by no means easy, likely a sign of the limited time that Nadal and Alcaraz have spent training and playing together. But it was nonetheless an entertaining introduction to tennis’ new favorite double act. Another break of serve followed two games later, which Alcaraz had engineered with a cross-court backhand, before Nadal was able to serve out for the match. How Emmanuel Macron blew his legacy

He’s now staring at what will certainly be his real legacy: Macron opened the door to the far right in France. After a shattering defeat in May’s European Parliament election, his decision to call a snap election has, at least partially, backfired. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, left, and France's Emmanuel Macron shake hands after a press conference on June 16, 2022 in Kyiv, Ukraine. For countless communities in France - French or immigrant - the legacy of one man’s gamble, and the uncertainty that is his legacy, will exact a far higher price.

Top of the list of sensitivities is likely to be foreign policy, where Le Pen and Macron rarely see eye to eye. Many held similar suspicions ahead of the election of hard-right culture warrior Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in 2022. “It’s a form of interference, and in that sense, I find it unacceptable,” Le Pen said of the post.

French President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance was crushed on Sunday after the far-right National Rally (RN) party surged in the first round of the country’s parliamentary elections. It would then become the first far-right party to enter the French government since World War II – although nothing is certain ahead of Sunday’s second round. “Tonight is not a night like any other,” Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said solemnly in an address to the French. The left-wing New Popular Front has announced that it will withdraw all candidates who came in third to help prevent far-right candidates from getting elected. A loss would force Macron to nominate a prime minister from whichever party wins – putting a political opponent in charge of running the government.
