Oil eased on Friday after a rally the previous day, but prices remained set for a second straight weekly gain as investors weighed the impact of hurricane damage on U.S. demand against any broad supply disruption if Israel attacks Iranian oil sites. Brent crude oil futures fell 39 cents, or 0.5%, to $79.01 a barrel by 0152 GMT. "Oil prices are likely to hover around the current 200-day average levels, with the primary concern being whether Israel will retaliate against Iranian oil facilities," he said. Crude benchmarks spiked this month after Iran launched more than 180 missiles against Israel on Oct. 1, raising the prospect of retaliation against Iranian oil facilities. Israel has yet to respond, and crude benchmarks have eased and remained relatively flat through the week.

Ukraine's F-16 pilots have had to get up to speed on a different fighter jet quickly. And more broadly, Ukraine's air force is having to rapidly undergo a wider transition that its international partners took significantly longer to do. Those older jets have hydraulic systems, while F-16 jets are fly-by-wire, which means computers process the input by pilots. CNN —Archaeologists in Denmark have unearthed more than 50 “exceptionally well preserved” skeletons in a large Viking-era burial ground in the east of the country. The skeletons were buried alongside artifacts from far beyond Denmark’s borders, suggesting Vikings traveled extensively for trade, according to the team from the museum. The conditions at the site are what helped keep the skeletons in such good shape, he said. “We had no clue that there was going to be a burial ground with Viking skeletons there,” Lundø said. The international poverty line, which the U.N. uses to measure global poverty, is very low. The international poverty line is valuable because it has succeeded in drawing the world’s attention to the extreme poverty of the world’s very poorest people. But to end poverty in all its forms everywhere, studying this poverty line alone is not enough. One way to see whether this higher poverty line is reasonable is to check whether it aligns with established national poverty assessments. For this, we need an appropriately ambitious poverty line that receives the same attention as the low international poverty line.

Agriculture is responsible for more than 10% of global carbon emissions, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. But while agriculture is a massive carbon offender, it could now be part of a solution, as startups are trying new ways of using nature to save itself. Startups like Lithos, UNDO Carbon and California-based Eion are experimenting with several types of carbon-absorbing rocks that can accomplish what lime does while permanently removing carbon from the atmosphere at the same time. "We apply a rock dust onto farms, and that helps farmers condition the soil or make the soil better for improvements," said Anastasia Pavlovic, CEO of Eion. "Then over time, that manages to secure and sequester carbon, permanently removing it from the atmosphere."
