Quantitative and technical strategist Javed Mirza pointed out in a note to clients that the Nasdaq 100 has not set a record high since July. On Monday, the Nasdaq 100 was trading about 2% below its record close. "The Nasdaq 100 just triggered a new short-term 'mechanical sell' signal, diverging from the other North American equity indices," Mirza said. The Nasdaq 100's slump is not the only factor pointing to toward a new phase for the bull market. To be sure, even the late stage phases of a bull market can last for quite a while.

ACCRA, Ghana — Illegal small-scale gold mining in Ghana has been linked with the destruction of the environment and illness. A protest in Accra, Ghana, demanding government action on illegal gold mining. Yaw Amoafo, who owns several small gold mines employing 20 to 30 people each, said public anger at galamsey mining has forced him to cease operations. He added that he feared the government would introduce a short-term ban on small-scale mining, like the one it implemented in 2017. Earlier this year it opened the government-backed Royal Ghana Gold Refinery, with the intent of getting it accredited by the LBMA.

Shares of Swedish telecom firm Ericsson jumped amid third-quarter core earnings that surpassed analyst expectations and growth in North American demand. Net sales shed 4% year-on-year to 61.8 billion Swedish crowns in the third quarter, but nevertheless surpassed analyst expectations of near 61.6 billion, according to Reuters estimates. North America emerged as a bright spot in the sales picture, with year-on-year growth of more than 50%. "North America was the first to roll out 5G, and of course they were also the first to therefore slow down the pace. The North American growth offset steep third-quarter sales declines in both north east and south east Asia, where telecommunication companies have recently been focusing on developing markets such as India.

New York CNN —Several hundred “underperforming” 7-Eleven locations across North America are closing, the convenience store announced. Seven & I Holdings, the chain’s Japan-based parent company, revealed in an earnings report Thursday that 444 locations of 7-Eleven are shutting down because of a variety of issues, including slowing sales, declining traffic, inflationary pressures and a decrease in cigarette purchases. A specific list of closing locations wasn’t immediately released. The chain has more than 13,000 stores across the United States, Canada and Mexico, so the number of closures amounts to 3% of its portfolio. Competitors like Wawa and Sheetz are earning higher customer satisfaction scores for their overall offerings, while 7-Eleven ranked way lower, according to a recent survey.

The automaker also appointed Antonio Filosa as its North America chief operating officer in addition to his role as Jeep brand CEO, succeeding Carlos Zarlenga, whose future role has not been announced. Stellantis last week lowered its forecast from positive cash flow to negative cash flow of between 5 billion and 10 billion euros ($5.5 billion and $10.9 billion) this year. A major change in marketing is essential for Mountain Dew. I've loved the Caribbean but I'm more interested in other ports now that I've been on 50+ cruises. Although I still love these ports, they've lost their appeal to me now that I've been on more than 50 cruises. Sailing through the Norwegian fjords is one of my favorite cruise experiences to date — the breathtaking views surrounds the ship in all directions, offering endless photo opportunities. So, no matter the itinerary, I now tend to book lengthier sailings — ideally ones longer than a week. PepsiCo on Tuesday lowered its full-year outlook for organic revenue after its second straight quarter of weaker-than-expected sales. Shares of the company fell 1% in premarket trading. The company reported that volume for both its food and beverage divisions declined 2%. Quaker Foods North America reported the steepest drop-off in volume, with a 13% slide. Frito-Lay North America reported a 1.5% decline in volume.

Mobile World Congress, a mobile communications trade show, is coming to Las Vegas this week. Techies, salespeople, and industry executives are arriving in Nevada this week for MWC Las Vegas, which kicks off today. The annual mobile-communications trade show brings more than 250 exhibitors, sponsors, and partners to the Las Vegas Convention Center in Sin City from Tuesday to Thursday. 5G technology is on track to add $210 billion in GDP to the North American economy by 2030, GSMA's "Mobile Economy North America" report said. Two Democratic lawmakers are demanding that some of the biggest food and beverage companies stop engaging in “shrinkflation” — the practice of reducing product sizes while charging prices that are the same or higher. Spokespeople for General Mills, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo did not immediately respond to requests for comment. President Joe Biden has mentioned shrinkflation numerous times, declaring it a “rip-off” in a video he posted to X.
