Meta cut the price of its ad-free subscription versions of Facebook and Instagram by 40% for European Union users to comply with regulatory demands in the region. Meta originally debuted an ad-free subscription service for the EU in October 2023 due to an EU regulation intended to clamp down on anti-competitive practices by tech companies. The subscription service also came into effect after regional regulators fined the company over $400 million for violating EU data privacy laws. "The changes we're announcing today meet EU regulator demands and go beyond what's required by EU law," Meta President Nick Clegg said Tuesday on Threads. "This is why I expect that even when presented with several equal choices, most people will still choose our personalized ads service," Pavón said in a LinkedIn post said.

CNN —Richard Allen has been found guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder in the highly publicized Delphi murder trial, according to CNN affiliate WTHR. Delphi law enforcement have long held they believe the “Bridge Guy” shown in the video is the main suspect in the case. Prosecutors drew attention to the .40-caliber unspent round found by the girls’ bodies, which a prosecution expert testified matched Allen’s pistol. The prosecution has also tried to match Allen with the video and audio recording of the “Bridge Guy” captured on Libby’s cellphone. “Richard Allen is ‘Bridge Guy,’” McLeland told jurors.

New York CNN —Sexist and abusive attacks on women, like “your body, my choice” and “get back to the kitchen,” have surged across social media since Donald Trump’s reelection, according to an analysis from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. An X post from White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes last Tuesday night saying, “Your body, my choice. And a number of women on TikTok posted videos saying their comments had been filled with users posting the phrase. “Your body, my choice” is an apparent subversion the phrase “my body, my choice,” which was used by women as a rallying cry in support of reproductive rights. In some cases, X and TikTok users responded to posts saying “your body, my choice” with vague threats of retaliatory violence.

Grocery chain Asda is calling workers back to the office three days a week from January. The British retailer says it will improve on-site catering and provide better bathrooms for staff. Asda chair Stuart Rose said remote work doesn't suit the fast pace of the consumer goods industry. In recent months, companies like Dell and Amazon have announced that staff must be back in the office five days a week. If RTO policies become too strict, top talent will simply leave to find a system that works for them, Ravin Jesuthasan, a respected future-of-work researcher, previously told Business Insider.

To be clear: Trump does not inherit a world at peace, where America’s unquestioning role as a beacon of freedom and moral superiority has brought enduring calm. Yet Tehran now has experience of Trump as someone willing to be wildly incautious and unafraid of international norms. As President Joe Biden - who did all he could to avoid war with Iran - leaves power, Iran looks incredibly weak. But in the current moment we are at in the war, Ukraine is equally in need of time to regroup and rearm. Does Putin risk Trump taking greater personal offense if that same deal is later betrayed, and their entente exposed as a sham?

Hong Kong CNN —When the new iPhone 16 went on sale, locals couldn’t help but notice some less familiar faces flocking to Hong Kong’s Apple stores: Russians holding piles of cash. “We want to buy as many as possible,” one Russian buyer, Nick Alexenkov, told CNN outside the Apple store in Tsim Sha Tsui, a busy shopping district in Hong Kong. Alexenkov, the iPhone purchaser in Hong Kong, said he expected to turn a profit of up to 25% for each phone despite offering to pay 12% above the retail price to acquire those phones in Hong Kong. Jurors will deliberate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday until they reach a verdict, according to WTHR. Last month, 16 Allen County residents were selected to serve on the jury, including four people serving as alternates, WTHR said. “I believe the evidence is firmly convincing that Richard Allen is Bridge Guy and he killed Abby and Libby,” McLeland told the jury. Prosecutors drew attention to the .40-caliber unspent round found by the girls’ bodies, which a prosecution expert testified matched Allen’s pistol. A law enforcement source told NBC News that several branches of the FBI have been deployed, including criminal, cyber and counterintelligence agencies. But the FBI told NBC News that a VPN from another country does not necessarily mean the text messages originated there. Dozens of people across the country have received the racist text messages, including high school and middle school students. She’s among several recipients who were disappointed by the outcome of the presidential election and saw the text messages as salt on an open wound. The association urged anyone receiving spam text messages to forward them to the number 7726 or “SPAM” to report them to their wireless provider.

There should be no enduring mystery about what a Trump presidency means for Ukraine. Trump has said he would end the war “in 24 hours,” but not how. Trump may appoint a cabinet that mildly adjusts the pace or tone of his instincts, but in the end he wants out. It is an anathema to two of Trump’s first term dislikes: costly US military engagement abroad, and upsetting Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Federal Reserve is widely expected to trim rates by a quarter point on Thursday, taking another step toward unwinding its tight policy. The rate on a $30,000 home equity line of credit sits at 8.7% as of the week of Nov. 1, according to Bankrate. The rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage was 7.09% as of the week of Nov. 1, sharply higher than the 4.29% in March 2022. That's because mortgage rates loosely follow the 10-year Treasury yield , which has recently taken a leg higher. Indeed, the benchmark yield stood at 4.363% during the week of Nov. 1, sharply higher than the 3.649% it traded at in mid-September.

There should be no enduring mystery about what a Trump presidency means for Ukraine. Trump may appoint a cabinet that mildly adjusts the pace or tone of his instincts, but in the end he wants out. Workers remove debris from an apartment building that was damaged during a Russian drone strike in Kyiv, Ukraine, on October 29, 2024. Furthermore, Trump enters the White House at perhaps the most perilous time for Kyiv since the start of the war. Those tired of the Ukraine war – be they Kyiv ally or frontline soldier – should still not embrace the idea of a Trump-backed deal.

Our NFL writers addressed these topics and more in making one prediction for every team heading into the season’s second half. The fourth-year back is on pace to finish with 1,256 yards, which would be the fourth-highest total in team history. Every other NFL team has put a player in at least one of those categories during that stretch — and most teams have checked both boxes. Minnesota has one of the most productive defenses in the NFL and an offense loaded at the skill positions. And the Eagles have managed to win games despite bad luck and bad decisions.

Next door in the 7th District, GOP state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie defeated Democratic Rep. Susan Wild, who had flipped a GOP seat in a 2018 special election. Republicans also flipped an open seat in Michigan’s 7th District, after Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin decided to run for the Senate. Because California is notoriously slow in counting ballots, some of the half-dozen hyper-competitive races there — critical to which party wins the House majority — likely will take days. In the 27th District, GOP Rep. Mike Garcia was narrowly beating Democrat George Whitesides with 65% of the vote in. In another California battleground race, NBC News projected Wednesday that GOP Rep. After playing to the coasts, Hollywood is leaning toward faith and family-based shows and films. The Prime Video series will be the first to come out of Amazon's deal with The Wonder Project, a Christian-focused production company, for faith-based films and TV shows. After playing to the coasts with shows that embraced progressive themes, Hollywood is leaning into broadly appealing fare. That shift has included a combination of undeniably faith-based, conservative-themed, and family-aimed entertainment, agents, producers, and industry experts say. "Conservative, faith-based, family, is not a bad place to look," Thompson said.

What kind of influence will Nvidia have on the 30-stock index when it joins before the bell this Friday? Instead, share price determines how much a single stock can move the Dow on a daily basis. A $1 move in any Dow stock translates to roughly 6.6 points on the index. By considering both share price and historical volatility, we can estimate each stock's potential influence on the index.
