Aerial view of Eleven Mile Solar in Coolidge, Az. Put simply, large financial institutions provide part of the financing for a renewable energy project, in exchange for the project's tax credits. Smaller developers don't always have the means to enter into these partnerships, and the appetite from large financial institutions to take stakes in renewable energy projects is limited. That's "[s]till far short of what is needed in the post-IRA clean energy investment landscape," the investment bank Evercore ISI noted. Aerial view of Eleven Mile Solar in Coolidge, Az.

The Wall Street investment bank analyzed the holdings of 707 hedge funds with $2.7 trillion of gross equity positions at the start of the second quarter. Goldman found that hedge funds added to under-the-radar winners across the entire AI universe, particularly players in infrastructure, including Marvell Technology , TD Synnex , AES Corporation and Littelfuse . Copper miner Freeport-McMoRan and solar tracking company Nextracker, both involved in AI's power production, also saw increased popularity among hedge funds. Hedge funds also trimmed positions in other megacap stocks benefiting from the AI enthusiasm, including Microsoft , Meta Platforms and Amazon . Apple was the exception in the so-called " Magnificent Seven " group — hedge funds added exposure to the Tim Cook-led iPhone maker, according to Goldman.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 17 points, while S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures hovered near the flatline. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.32%. Economists polled by Dow Jones expect the consumer price index to show a 0.4% monthly gain, or a 0.3% increase excluding food and energy. Tuesday's producer price index for April contributed to that narrative, showing a 0.5% gain in wholesale prices, above the 0.3% estimate from Dow Jones.
