Donald Trump's lawyers went after accountant Donald Bender in court on Thursday. Donald Trump's lawyers tried to put the mental health of his former accountant Donald Bender on trial Thursday as part of an effort to undermine the New York attorney general's fraud lawsuit against them. And one of Trump's lawyers, Jesus Suarez, zoomed in on a disclaimer in a document that Mazars had given to authorities. But Cliff Robert, an attorney for Donald Trump's sons Eric and Donald Jr., challenged Bender's recollection of his interactions with Jeff McConney, a longtime Trump Organization accountant. Bender is no stranger to the witness stand, having previously testified at the criminal trial of the Trump Organization in 2022.

Staff said Judge Pauline Newman, 96, was "losing it, mentally" after 39 years on the bench. "Judge Newman and her counsel have aggressively sought to discredit this entire process by trying their case in the press while conjuring a narrative of 'hostile,' 'disrespect[ful],' and 'appalling' treatment marked by exercises of 'raw power,' all borne out of 'personal animosity' for Judge Newman," the decision said. Since March, Judge Newman's unusually public dispute with her fellow judges has rocked the Federal Circuit. He has said disagreements between the judge and staff don't come close to showing "disability." AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Federal Circuit appeals court, where Newman has been a judge since 1984, was created to hear cases in niche areas of federal law, like patents and government contracts.

Judge Pauline Newman is 96 and says colleagues are trying to force her out over petty complaints. But she had an unnamed law clerk run errands and retaliated against an aide, an investigation found. In April, that clerk asked to be transferred to a judge after learning that "other law clerks were assisting Judge Newman in her defense of these proceedings," he said in an affidavit. "To sit at the feet, metaphorically, of Judge Newman, is an opportunity that any aspiring patent lawyer would welcome." The code of conduct for federal judges bars them from using chambers staff for certain extra-judicial activities (running errands isn't specifically listed).

A lawsuit claims Rudy Giuliani was paid $300,000 while pitching investors on an anti-Biden film. Giuliani allegedly said it would be a "kill shot" that would sink Joe Biden's campaign. By then, Giuliani was hard at work trying to dig up election-year dirt on Joe Biden in his capacity as President Trump's personal attorney. Giuliani, the lawsuit alleges, asked for the farmers' help finance efforts to make sure Trump was elected to a second term. The aborted Giuliani film project also forms part of a whistleblower disclosure from Johnathan Buma, an FBI special agent whose allegations were first reported by Insider.

Corporate execs and lawyers with business before the Supreme Court mingled with some of the country's most influential jurists. Revelations about Thomas and Crow's relationship have prompted calls in Congress for the Supreme Court to adopt its first-ever binding code of ethics. Broadcom sent Harman a letter in May saying that all chips Broadcom supplied to Harman must be used exclusively for BMW components. The lawsuit accused Broadcom of approaching two Harman customers BMW and GM, "likely deliberately squeezing supply to win concessions from both." Broadcom and BMW then formed an exclusive chip partnership, which cut out Harman from the supply chain, according to the suit. After discussions with Broadcom, Harman wrote to Broadcom saying that it did not agree to this. Broadcom and BMW also entered an agreement where Broadcom would sell chips to BMW directly while only allowing Harman to have chips incorporated into BMW products.

A recent report in the Wall Street Journal that Elon Musk uses ketamine at parties could prompt an investigation into his security clearance, two attorneys who specialize in national security law told Insider. Drug use is typically grounds for the government to yank someone's security clearance, the two national security attorneys told Insider. Security clearance applicants are specifically required to disclose whether they have used ketamine on SF-86, the standard application form used to apply for a clearance. Edmunds, the security clearance attorney, said that in his experience, there is a "very prevalent" double standard for security clearance infractions, wherein defense contracting executives and higher-ranking government officials receive more permissive treatment than their subordinates. Musk boosts the benefits of drug useAfter the Rogan incident, Musk told "60 Minutes" that he didn't regularly smoke pot.

It affects owners of certain 2016 to 2021 Hyundai models and certain Kia models made between 2011 and 2021. The spike in theft of the models is partially thanks to a TikTok trend from the "Kia Boyz," which followed people breaking into Kia and Hyundai models only using a screwdriver and a USB cord.
Judge Pauline Newman says her fellow appeals judges are trying to force her off the Federal Circuit. She claims she's been "hacked" when she can't find a file or email, the decision quoted staff saying. Her peers say Judge Newman has slowed downOver the years, Judge Newman has established a reputation as a prolific dissenter, frequently and openly disagreeing with her colleagues on issues of patent law. The typical federal judge last year was 68 years old. The judges investigating Newman said allegations about her interactions with staff weren't the only thing that needed to be evaluated.
The complaint was sent to the US judges' Committee on Financial Disclosure. For now, questions about Thomas's previously undisclosed financial dealings with Harlan Crow, a billionaire Texas real-estate developer, will fall to an obscure committee of sixteen federal judges — the Committee on Financial Disclosure. Koszczuk said the same letterhead was routinely sent to any member of the public who asked for a judge's financial disclosure report. When Ranjan wrote his article, a review of a Thomas biography, the controversies surrounding Thomas had nothing to do with his financial disclosures. Judges' financial disclosures are only updated annually, and until recently, it wasn't easy to get ahold of them.

A federal immigration judge's former staffer accused him of sexual harassment in a shocking lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges LA judge Scott Laurent ranked female colleagues and lawyers by which ones were "fuckable." Esocoto also alleged Laurent ranked female colleagues, judges, and lawyers by which ones he deemed were "fuckable." Escoto also alleges Laurent often asked her to come "sit on Daddy's lap," referring to himself as "Daddy."
