It was only the fourth time in 36 World Series games since 2018 that the audience has cracked 15 million. The last one before Friday was the seventh and deciding game in the 2019 series, when Washington’s 6-2 victory over Houston for its first championship averaged 23 million. The Rangers’ 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks in 11 innings averaged 9.35 million, and was the least-viewed Game 1 on record. Friday’s game was the most-watched Game 1 since Los Angeles’ 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros in 2017 averaged 15.33 million. The game had a 19.1 rating and 58 share in Los Angeles and 13.2 rating and 37 share in New York.

The Japanese slugger sustained a left shoulder subluxation and will undergo more testing, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game, adding that the team is however “encouraged” about the injury. There's no bigger stage in baseball than a World Series between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and there's no bigger star than Japanese slugger Shohei Ohtani. The 30-year-old's ability to hit mammoth home runs, pitch over 100 mph and steal bases with ease got him a $700 million contract from the Dodgers this past offseason. But despite his on-field exploits, the 30-year-old is also known for being one of the most humble players in the league. It's an approach that was instilled in him when he was just a promising high school athlete. For the players, who dormed at the school during the season, this included being assigned chores.

The average price for a World Series ticket in the secondary market is $3,887, according to ticket reseller TicketIQ. The teams — which sport two of the three highest payrolls in the league — are meeting in the World Series for the first time since 1981, marking their 12th championship series matchup.
