Overall, NFL teams are currently averaging 21.4 points per game, the fifth straight year the scoring average has decreased, and the lowest points per game total since 2006. Last season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 yards, the lowest total for a passing yards leader since 2017. There are several theories as to why the passing game has been muted and scoring numbers have decreased. But it’s not only that teams are playing more Cover 2, the problem may also be that modern NFL teams are worse at attacking what is not a novel concept. Obviously, there is far from any consensus on why exactly NFL offenses have slowed down.

Rodgers defied his age in the win, moving around with ease and effectiveness as he evaded Patriots defenders and dissected New England’s defense with his throwing. Rodgers was serenaded throughout the game by the Jets faithful with chants of his name, and afterwards, the quarterback labeled Thursday a “really special night.”“I was feeling real good out there,” Rodgers told reporters. I felt like I was myself quite a few years ago.”Rodgers missed the majority of last season with a torn Achilles. Adam Hunger/APRodgers added when asked about returning to the field at MetLife Stadium: “I felt a really good calm about it, honestly, I didn’t think a whole lot about it. But in its third game of the season with the Super Bowl XLV champion at the helm, things appeared to click for New York.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers placed All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve because of his lingering calf and Achilles tendon injuries. The move made Saturday means McCaffrey will miss at least four more games after already sitting out the season opener. He missed only one game combined in 2022-23 — a meaningless Week 18 game last season for San Francisco when he had a sore calf. Now San Francisco will likely rely heavily on Mason, a former undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech who had 83 carries his first two seasons. San Francisco also elevated safety Tracy Walker III from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against Minnesota.

CNN —A short but tense distribution dispute between Disney and DirecTV came to an end Saturday after the two sides agreed to a new deal that will restore Disney-owned channels, including ABC, ESPN and FX, to the satellite TV provider. DirecTV stopped airing Disney-owned channels on September 1, denying sports fans the ability to watch NFL games on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” and US Open tennis on ABC. The companies said the distribution deal will include new options for customers, including new packages that include the Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ streaming services. DirecTV will also be able to distribute the forthcoming ESPN standalone streaming service at no extra cost to DirecTV customers. Last week, DirecTV filed a complaint Saturday with the Federal Communications Commission alleging Disney did not negotiate in good faith.

He was then ruled out of the game Sunday against Minnesota after expressing hope earlier in the week that he could play. Addison had seven catches for 123 yards and two TDs in a win against San Francisco last season. In other injury news for San Francisco, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos is set to play after missing the opener with a knee injury.

Wall Street relationshipsOne of Vance's earliest interactions with Wall Street came shortly after the November 2016 presidential election, when he headlined a lunch in New York to discuss his newly published memoir. John Underwood, a longtime managing director at Goldman Sachs, encouraged his allies to support and raise money for Vance's Senate campaign, according to people familiar with the matter. He told them the Trump campaign would need "hundreds of millions of dollars" to compete with Vice President Kamala Harris' fundraising surge. The Ohio Republican's opposition to Wall Street was on full display during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July. "Wall Street barons crashed the economy and American builders went out of business," Vance said in his nomination acceptance speech.

CNN —The San Francisco 49ers put in a dominant showing to beat the New York Jets 32-19 on Monday, spoiling Aaron Rodgers’ return to NFL action. However, the Jets offense then struggled to produce much until late in the third by which point San Francisco had built up a comfortable lead. Disney and DirecTV are not likely to reach a deal in time for "Monday Night Football" according to people familiar with the matter. As a result of the fight, DirecTV customers were unable to see the U.S. Open and the first full weekend of the college football season. DirecTV alerted customers on Friday to competitor alternatives for watching ESPN and also said it would provide a $30 credit to customers. However, Charter and Disney reached a deal hours ahead of "Monday Night Football" that allowed customers to tune in that night. The dispute between DirecTV and Disney has led to mudslinging between the two companies reminiscent of most carriage fights.

CNN —DirecTV filed a complaint Saturday with the Federal Communications Commission alleging Disney did not negotiate in good faith as the two sides remain at an impasse on a distribution deal. ESPN owns the broadcast rights to “Monday Night Football,” which will be blacked out for DirecTV subscribers unless a deal is reached. “We continue to negotiate with DirecTV to restore access to our content as quickly as possible,” a Disney spokesperson told CNN on Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL's current dynasty, are only the 18th most valuable team in the league at $6.07 billion, according to CNBC's Official 2024 NFL Team Valuations. The bulk of a team's revenue in a given season comes from the ballooning media rights fees that the NFL charges for its games. Contrast that with leagues like the NBA and NHL, where clubs receive a much bigger cut of playoff ticket revenue. Stadium ownership and operating rights are also a lucrative source of revenue for NFL teams. Perennial playoff teams can also be more attractive to sponsors because they can almost guarantee that thousands of additional people will be in their stadiums every year.
