CME FedWatch, which forecasts interest rate changes based on market predictions, estimated an all-but-certain 25 basis point cut as of Friday afternoon. Rent costs have long weighed on lower-income households — now it’s coming for the middle class. A cost-burdened household is defined as one paying 30% or more of pretax income on rent and housing costs. This figure is widely used as a threshold for affordability: the Census Bureau measures housing costs against it, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development has used it for decades. While nearly 40% of middle-class renters are burdened by costs nationwide, in Tennessee that figure is 37%, placing it among the upper half of states with the largest share of cost-burdened middle-class renters. The growing pressure on middle-class renters may finally be spurring political action.

Crypto companies, executives, and super PACs have spent huge sums this election cycle, outspending even perennial big spenders like the Koch family, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The crypto industry has outspent every other industry, injecting almost $120 million into federal races as of August, according to OpenSecrets, a nonprofit that tracks campaign spending. Butker announced the formation of UPRIGHT PAC during the Chiefs’ bye week last weekend, which, according to its website, intends to “reclaim the traditional values that have made this country great” and “mobilize Christians across this country to make sure we protect these values” at the upcoming election. Two young boys have died in separate tractor accidents at Halloween hayrides in Tennessee and Minnesota, local officials said. In Minnesota, 13-year-old Alexander Mick, of Rice, died Saturday after he was run over by a tractor-pulled trolley wagon, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The sheriff’s office received a call around 7:30 p.m. about a young male injured after he was run over at the annual Harvest of Horror Haunted Hayride in the city of St. Augusta. The sheriff’s office did not identify the child, but the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as 12-year-old Samuel Jessen, NBC affiliate WSMV of Nashville reported.
