Former NHL star Paul Bissonnette landed in the hospital after he was assaulted by seven men in a brawl that broke out at an Arizona restaurant over the weekend, he said. He said the fight escalated "extremely quickly" and involved seven men against him. The fight spilled over from the restaurant to the parking lot, and then to a nearby CVS. The six men arrested face assault and disorderly conduct charges, police said. Bissonnette described the situation as “bad dudes” who were “way too drunk.”“I’m very, very angry about these guys,” Bissonnette said.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield filed a federal lawsuit against a financial firm owned by his father, James Mayfield, accusing the company of failing to pay back nearly $12 million taken without his authorization. Under the agreement, Camwood was required to repay $11.7 million plus interest beginning Sept. 30, the lawsuit states. The death of a 2-year-old western lowland gorilla at a Canadian zoo earlier this month was found to be the result of human error, the zoo announced. The care team member — intending to separate Eyare from other gorillas for an individual training session — accidentally activated the wrong door, striking the young gorilla, who sustained traumatic head injuries. The zoo said that they immediately launched a formal investigation into Eyare's death and removed the gorilla care team member responsible from the workplace following the incident. That member will be "reassigned to another area of the zoo and will undergo further staff training for that area." The zoo said they are also exploring the idea of transitioning to alternative door and control designs, instead of continuing to use hydraulic doors.

Over 18,000 people have registered online to run for Supreme Court seats and federal judgeships in Mexico’s contentious new selection process, officials said Monday. The ruling party pushed through a constitutional reform in September to make all federal judges stand for election, replacing the system where court employees and lawyers mainly move up through the ranks. Now, candidates for Supreme Court seats and federal judgeships need only a law degree, a grade point average of 3.2, “five years of professional experience” and five letters of recommendation from neighbors or friends. According to the plan, evaluation committees will have just over a month to review thousands of resumes and whittle the field to about 10 candidates or less for each of the 881 judgeships and nine seats on the Supreme Court. SYDNEY, Australia — Google and Facebook-owner Meta Platforms urged the Australian government on Tuesday to delay a bill that will ban most forms of social media for children under 16, saying more time is needed to assess its potential impact. Google and Meta said in their submissions that the government should wait for the results of an age-verification trial before going ahead. The age-verification system may include biometrics or government identification to enforce a social media age cut-off. “In its present form, the bill is inconsistent and ineffective.”The law would force social media platforms, and not parents or children, to take reasonable steps to ensure age-verification protections are in place. ByteDance’s TikTok said the bill lacked clarity and that it had “significant concerns” with the government’s plan to pass the bill without detailed consultation with experts, social media platforms, mental health organizations and young people.
