CEO Kelly Ortberg has vowed to turn around the company and laid out a four-point plan. CEO Kelly Ortberg vowed to "return Boeing to its former legacy" and said the company would focus on changing its culture. However, restoring the traditional defined-benefit pension plan — replaced with a 401(k) in 2014 negotiations — has been a key issue for many on the picket lines. Bank of America analysts estimated that restoring this pension plan would cost up to $400 million annually. Boeing's production has been limited as it faces supply-chain constraints and renewed scrutiny from regulators in the wake of January's Alaska Airlines blowout.

"I don't care what tax bracket you're in," says Suze Orman, a financial expert and host of the "Women & Money (and Everyone Smart Enough to Listen)" podcast. "You have to be crazy to do anything other than a Roth retirement account." Roths take advantage of low tax rates The traditional thinking around traditional versus Roth accounts revolves around your personal tax rate. "Tax rates are low, secularly, compared with where they've been historically," she says. "So the idea is that you're better off taking your tax medicine now at relatively low tax rates."

Christopher Grigat | Moment | Getty ImagesInvestors can generally reduce their tax losses in a portfolio by using exchange-traded funds over mutual funds, experts said. "You'll have tax efficiency that a standard mutual fund is not going to be able to achieve, hands down," he said. The same concept applies within a mutual fund: Mutual fund managers generate capital gains when they sell holdings within the fund. Large-cap and small-cap "core" stocks also "benefit considerably," with about 85% to 90% of their returns coming from capital gains, Armour said. However, there are instances in which passively managed funds can trade often, too, such as with so-called strategic beta funds, Armour said.

Tony Kim, head of the fundamental equities technology group at BlackRock , is helming a new AI-focused fund launching on Tuesday. The top holdings in the ETF at launch are some of biggest names in the AI trade, including Nvidia and Microsoft . The AI Trade The excitement around the AI trade may have recently lost some of its luster for short-term traders. The valuations of some of the trendy AI stocks have also been a worry for some investors since AI took off with the introduction of ChatGPT in late 2022 . KKM Financial has converted its Essential 40 mutual fund into an ETF, joining the growing shift by asset managers to a more tax-efficient fund model. "A lot of the wealth advisors that I work with really have issues with the capital gain distribution typical to a mutual fund." S & P 500 money is oblivious to stock valuations of any kind and ignorant to upgrades and downgrades. The Lilliputian sellers regularly fail to do damage when matched with the oblivious index money. A 4% 2-year note isn't competitive to the magnet of the S & P 500 and its kin. That's emblematic of what happens with a big buyback without stock-based compensation (something many tech firms use that renders moot the S & P 500 inflows). Because of the way that the S & P 500 money is divvied up, the share base becomes overwhelmingly index-fund based and the index fund shareholders do not sell.

But there has been a surge in actively managed ETFs as investors seek lower costs and more precision, experts say. Active ETFs represented just more than 2% of the U.S. ETF market at the beginning of 2019. There are a few reasons for the active ETF growth, experts say. Still, only a fraction of issuers have been successful in the active ETF market. Active ETFs allow 'tactical adjustments'While passive ETFs replicate an index, such as the S&P 500 , active managers aim to outperform a specific benchmark.

CNN —America’s largest drug store chain named a new chief executive officer on Friday, with longtime CVS Health executive David Joyner replacing Karen Lynch. In August, rising costs at CVS’ insurance arm Aetna cut into profits, leading to the ousting of then-president Brian Kane. Charles Krupa/AP/FileLower reimbursement rates for prescription drugs have hit retail pharmacies, including Walgreens and Rite-Aid, resulting in flagging profits and forcing drug stores to shutter locations and cut jobs. Meanwhile, rival chain Walgreens is closing 1,200 stores as it faces competition from online pharmacies and larger retailers — another challenge facing drug stores. Our results need to show that more consistently,” a CVS Health spokesperson told CNN in a statement.

Momo Productions | Digitalvision | Getty ImagesWhile many investors have flocked to exchange-traded funds, they haven't gained much ground with 401(k) plan participants. The report found that 401(k) plans used ETFs most readily for sector and commodity funds — but even then, they did so just 3% of the time. Key benefits are 'irrelevant'Mutual funds, collective investment trust funds and separately managed accounts held the lion's share of the 401(k) assets across all investment categories, PSCA data shows. However, those benefits are "irrelevant" in 401(k) plans, Blanchett said. Blanchett said 401(k) plans are also long-term accounts in which frequent trading is generally not encouraged.

In yet another incident, crowds of angry drivers gather outside an apartment complex, demanding justice for a fellow delivery driver said to be bullied by security guards there. They’re among the many episodes of explosive confrontations across China involving delivery workers widely circulated on Chinese social media, showing people stretched to the breaking point. As China’s economy grapples with a raft of setbacks, from a protracted property crisis to a lack of consumer spending, delivery workers are taking a beating. That eats into delivery workers’ income as their pay is usually tied to a commission based on the price of the order. In 2019, a delivery driver died after he was hit by a tree knocked over by strong winds in Beijing, according to state media Global Times.

Analysts told BI it points to continued AI chip growth in the short to medium term. ASML sells large lithography machines — which print circuit patterns onto silicon wafers — to chip manufacturers, including TSMC, Samsung, and Intel. Its customers include Nvidia, the GPU designer spearheading the AI chip boom, along with AMD and Qualcomm. This makes TSMC a good bellwether for AI chip demand. While a slowdown at ASML might suggest some caution, the bigger picture still points to a continued surge in AI demand.

Contradictory messages about inflation and the labor market have investors on guard. Price growth is slowly falling from its peak, but it exceeded expectations in September after a hot reading in August. AdvertisementInflation is a threat that won't sink the economyWhile there's plenty of economic data to get excited about, persistent price growth is a problem. "If we're going to be data dependent, we have to at least look at the data," Sosnick said. Higher-than-hoped inflation is rarely compatible with an economic downturn, so if price growth does persist, it likely won't be in an earnings-crushing contraction.

If your home is temporarily uninhabitable after a natural disaster, a provision in your homeowners or renters insurance policy may help you with new lodging and other living expenses. Insured losses from Hurricane Milton could range from $30 billion to $60 billion, per Morningstar DBRS. Homeowners and renters affected by a natural disaster can ask about so-called "loss of use" or "additional living expenses" coverage from their insurance providers, experts say. The provision is meant to help cover reasonable living expenses if your home is not suitable to live in as a result of a covered peril such as a hurricane, fire or burst pipe. "I don't know of any homeowners policy that doesn't have it already there," said Karl Susman, president and principal insurance agent of Susman Insurance Services, Inc. in Los Angeles.
