REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSINGAPORE, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The dollar remained steady against major peers on Tuesday, after a pause in its rally following a slight dovish shift in Federal Reserve officials' tone. "If long-term interest rates remain elevated because of higher term premiums, there may be less need to raise the Fed funds rate," said Dallas Fed president Lorie Logan -- a notable shift from previously hawkish rhetoric. Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson said the central bank would need to "proceed carefully" given the recent rise in yields. "There are another 13 Fed speakers scheduled this week which could see this theme develop further," said analysts at Westpac. "The idea that the increases in bond yields have done part of the tightening job appears to be gaining traction among some Fed officials," said OCBC rates strategist Frances Cheung.

Many see the news as a strong signal that a U.S. bitcoin ETF will inevitably be green lit, which would help boost adoption of bitcoin. "If crypto trading transfers away from trading Coinbase directly and into ETFs (which, for many investors, might be the preferable way to get exposure), trading activity at Coinbase could decline further." Coinbase shares rallied nearly 15% Tuesday following the news, but the stock was down nearly 1% in trading Wednesday. "We believe a bitcoin ETF could increase competition and put pricing pressure on retail take rates. Plus, COIN's reliance on bitcoin revenue has only increased, from 31% of transaction revenue in 2Q22 to nearly 40% in 2Q23."

Shares of Palantir have surged 181% this year as investors bet on its potential in the booming artificial intelligence race. The company, founded in 2003, is already making strides in AI, even lending its tools to hospitals . In its latest earnings release in early May, CEO Alex Karp called demand for Palantir's AI platform, which allows commercial and government sectors to use LLMs with their own private data, "without precedent." While some analysts see promise in Palantir's AI capabilities, many remain cautious on the immediate profit contribution of the technology and view the stock as ripe for a pullback. In a note to clients in May, Morgan Stanley's Keith Weiss noted that the rally in Palantir shares and premium valuation creates an unfavorable near-term risk-reward.

May 22 (Reuters) - Japan's Mizuho Financial Group Inc (8411.T) will acquire independent investment bank Greenhill & Co Inc (GHL.N) in an all-cash transaction, in a bid to expand further into U.S. investment banking. Of Japan's three megabanks, Mizuho has, however, been slower to move than bigger rivals Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (8306.T) and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (8316.T). The Greenhill business will sit within Mizuho's banking division, led by Michal Katz, head of banking in the Americas, the statement said. Greenhill Chairman and CEO Scott L. Bok will become chairman of the M&A and restructuring advisory business, it added. Last year, Mizuho CEO Yoshiro Hamamoto told Reuters that the group's brokerage arm Mizuho Securities Co "has room for further growth" in the United States and acquisitions were an option it was exploring.
