You may not know it by looking at sticker prices in grocery aisles, but Thanksgiving dinner is more affordable than it has been in years. “If your dollar had the same overall purchasing power as a consumer in 1984 … this would be the least expensive Thanksgiving meal in the 39-year history of the AFBF Thanksgiving survey, other than the outlier of 2020,” the authors wrote. Target is offering a $20 Thanksgiving meal for four, including a small turkey, canned vegetables and stovetop stuffing mix. Walmart is promoting an “inflation-free Thanksgiving” meal of 29 items that can serve eight people for $56. “Don’t be afraid to check out multiple retailers.”Some Thanksgiving meal packages offer more ingredients, but that could mean preparing more dishes from scratch.

According to CDC figures, as of 2022, 72% of the US population receives fluoridated drinking water. There are 36,767 water systems in 36 states with publicly available information on the CDC‘s website, a small slice of the estimated number of drinking water systems in the US. In Kentucky, 93.8% of these reported water systems are fluoridated, and at the bottom end, only 3.7% of water systems reported in Alaska are fluoridated. From the publicly available data on water system fluoride levels, two water systems, both located in South Carolina, reported fluoride concentration levels above WHO guidelines. A 2010 Nevada study found that living in a community with fluoridated drinking water was associated with lower incidences of decayed, missing or filled teeth.

Stop & Shop spokesperson Caroline Medeiros said that despite the limited number of products, Stop & Shop stores and pharmacies are still open and operating as the chain works to restock its shelves and anticipate item availability. “At my personal Stop & Shop, I noticed that there wasn’t a lot of chicken, ground turkey. A user showed pictures on a Facebook from a Stop & Shop in Pittsfield, Massachusetts with rows of empty shelves and wrote “Avoid Stop and Shop… their shelves are empty.” A user on TikTok posted a video with over 40 thousand views of the empty shelves in a Stop & Shop in South Boston. Many in the comments of both posts said they had been confronted with similar scenes at other Stop & Shop locations. “Stop & Shop is well stocked with turkeys and hams for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, along with staples like potatoes, gravy, and stuffing,” she said.

But cargo container trade data reviewed by CNBC tells a more nuanced tale. "We took some action to move product ahead of the port strike which came with more cost," Fiddelke said. Target's peak season imports for 2024 compared to 2023 were flat to down, according to cargo container volumes data pulled and analyzed by ImportGenius. According to customs data aggregated by Panjiva, Walmart imported 25,000 shipments from May 31-August 31, valued at $1.3 billion. The big-box retailer reversed course and cut its full-year profit guidance, just three months after hiking that forecast. That's lower than the $9 to $9.70 per share range that it shared in August and below the $9.55 a share expected by analysts, according to StreetAccount. That metric, which is also known as same-store sales, includes sales on its website and stores open at least 13 months. The company fell short of Wall Street's earnings per share estimate by 20%, its biggest miss in two years. CNN —Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year than last but will still be 19% higher than before the pandemic, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving survey out Wednesday. The average cost of this year’s dinner for 10 people is $58.08, or about $5.80 per person, the survey found. The center piece of the Thanksgiving meal, the turkey, helped bring down the overall cost. But items like cubed stuffing and dinner rolls both increased by 8% because of higher labor costs, the AFBF said. The cost of the Thanksgiving dinner items varies based on location, the survey found.

Soon, Trump’s ability to fix America’s affordability crisis will collide head-on with another, perhaps more prominent, campaign trail promise: Mass deportations. And perhaps no industry relies on undocumented workers more than the food and agriculture industries. “The only question is how high prices will go.”Zandi noted that food prices could also be pushed higher by another element of the Trump agenda: Massive tariffs. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment about how mass deportations would impact food prices. The current immigration system does not allow for green cards for farm workers.

The Summary Trump plans to tap Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be his health and human services secretary. Kennedy has spread misinformation about vaccines, fluoride, raw milk and other topics. Kennedy has also referred to the Covid vaccine as “the deadliest vaccine ever made,” despite data showing it’s overwhelmingly safe. As many as 30 states allow raw milk to be sold, but the FDA regulates its sale across state lines. But Kennedy has cast doubt on those findings, claiming without evidence that the drugs were discredited because various groups stood to make money off Covid vaccines.

As an experienced chef and cooking instructor, I love this take on twice-baked potatoes. Here's my go-to recipe for twice-baked potatoes with mascarpone and chives. Alissa FitzgeraldRusset potatoes mash beautifully and retain a great shape when the insides are scooped out thanks to their thicker skin. Additionally, this recipe uses medium-sized potatoes since cutting these beauties in half isn't as visually appealing as stuffing them whole. Alissa FitzgeraldThe filling for these twice-baked potatoes has two notable tweaks from many classic recipes — there's no added milk, and it calls for mascarpone instead of sour cream.
