They are the second MLB team to earn an invitation to the league championship series and, yes, they’re aware of the other: the New York Mets. In the 55 seasons of LCS play, this will be just the third to feature both the Yankees and Mets. You might remember the others: 1999, when only the Yankees won, and 2000, when New York City had the World Series all to itself. We’re still hungry — at least in New York, where the World Series seemed like a birthright in the years before expansion. From Game 1 in 1949 through Game 2 in 1957, 44 of a possible 48 World Series games took place in New York.

CNN —By losing to the Detroit Tigers 4-1, the 2024 White Sox entered the record books as one of the most inept teams in sports history. hold the overall record for losses when the then National League team finished with an abysmal 20-134 record. The signs of a historically bad year started at the beginning of this season when the White Sox opened with just three wins in the first 25 games. The team would later lose 14 straight games and then suffer a 21-game skid, tying the American League record with the 1998 Baltimore Orioles. Ahead of the undesired deed, infielder Nicky Lopez, who grew up a White Sox fan as a kid, told MLB.com, “It obviously sucks.

This was, perhaps, the closest thing the White Sox have had to a prideful moment all season. As The Athletic’s Jayson Stark noted, the White Sox have used 29 position players this season. After their most recent downturn — a 12-game skid — the White Sox besting the Mets for worst ever became a matter of when, not if. The news from Bloomberg that billionaire Point72 founder and legendary stockpicker Steve Cohen will no longer trade his book for the $35 billion fund Tuesday is paradoxically both shocking and expected. Of the big multi-strategy managers, the fact Cohen was still managing a book set him apart from his main competitors. Will there be another Steve Cohen? Cohen launched SAC with $20 million in 1992; new funds today need exponentially more to justify leaving seats at funds like Point72. Fictional hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis, was loosely based on Steve Cohen.

CNN —When people ask me how good of a player Willie Mays was, I give them a perhaps odd answer. You see, my Father watched Mays play when he came up as a rookie for the New York Giants in 1951.
