Several top party donors have privately told Menendez's campaign that he should resign, according to a longtime past supporter who spoke with CNBC. The PAC so far has raised approximately $300,000 for Menendez's 2024 reelection campaign, according to its president, Dr. Ben Chouake. NorPAC has donated a combined $15,500 toward the Menendez campaign and separate leadership PAC since 2017, according to OpenSecrets data. Prudential Financial , the large insurer, has donated $35,000 through their PAC toward Menendez's political operation since 2017, according to OpenSecrets. A Prudential spokeswoman declined to comment when asked whether the company's PAC would continue to support Menendez following his indictment.

Daibes is now a key figure in a sweeping bribery case brought against Menendez, his wife and multiple other associates. AdvertisementAdvertisementBut there's a totally legal way to make extra money — sometimes way more money than the $174,000 salary — as a sitting member of Congress. That would seem to indicate that Menendez's book wasn't exactly a cash cow for him. Federal prosecutors are charging Sen. Robert Menendez in a bribery and corruption scandal. Menendez allegedly helped a trio of businessmen and Egypt in exchange for — among other things — gold bars. Menendez previously faced corruption charges in 2017, but the case was dropped. The indictment alleges that Menendez "provided sensitive US government information and took other steps that secretly aided the Government of Egypt." In exchange, prosecutors allege that Wael "Will" Hana, who helped run the company, provided Menendez's wife, Nadine Menendez, a "low-or-no-show job."
