Ballot papers are counted at the Dublin RDS centre, in Dublin, on December 1, 2024, on the second day of counting ballots in the Irish General Election. Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have ruled out a partnership with the left-leaning party. The result "breaks with the trend seen internationally this year for weaker incumbent election results," analysts at investment firm Davy said in a note. "However, underlying that, there is a frustration from a growing part of the Irish population that has not been captured in this election. It appears Sinn Féin haven't captured this sense of frustration, seen in the fact that there was a low voter turnout of 59%.

File photo of Fine Gael leader Simon Harris speaking at a convention in Athlone, central Ireland on March 24, 2024, after becoming de facto prime minister-in-waiting. Ireland's two long-dominant center-right parties looked likely to form a new government as results came in from a fractured national election, though with a reduced vote share and complex coalition negotiations ahead. As ballot-counting continued Sunday, incumbent governing parties Fine Gael and Fianna Fail and left-of-center opposition Sinn Fein were jostling to see which would win the most seats in the 174-seat Dail, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. Fine Gael and Fianna Fail have similar policies, but are longtime rivals with origins on opposing sides of Ireland's 1920s civil war. Fine Gael candidate Paschal Donohoe, a minister in the outgoing government, said the main theme of the election was "one of the center holding."

And don't even get them started on mounting a TV above a fireplace. But this one subreddit dedicated to discussing television mounting is one of the most furious pits of vipers I've encountered. It soothes my soul to see people hurl insults about TV mounting, in the same way someone might feel relaxed by soothing music or deep breathing. But there's another topic that frequently comes up that sparks a seething hatred that verges on zealotry: mounting TVs above a fireplace. Wall changed it up: He removed the TV from the mount and placed the set on a new media stand.

With more than 200 people moving there each week, the city projects it will have more than 100,000 residents by 2029. “Southern Collin County is just getting really, really, really expensive. CNN —When photographer Elizabeth Kahane’s husband asked where in New York they should live following their engagement in 1998, she had a very specific requirement for their marital home: A view of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Its street-facing windows offered the perfect vantage point to watch — and photograph — the procession, which travels down through midtown Manhattan to Macy’s department store on Thanksgiving morning. The photographer has captured the spectacle almost every year since, missing the parade just twice in over a quarter of a century. Thomas the Tank Engine, the Kool-Aid Man and Boss Baby are just some of the dozens of other outsized characters Kahane has pictured floating slowly past her home — often at eye-level. Some shots were taken from inside the apartment, with kids seen enjoying the surreal view of parade characters — from Sonic the Hedgehog to Pikachu, gleefully riding a Poké Ball-inspired sled — looming outside.

I ordered a turkey sandwich with the same toppings from Subway and Potbelly Sandwich Shop. The Subway sandwich was larger and had more sauce, but I liked Potbelly's bread more. Nothing hits the spot quite like a classic turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and all the fixings. To determine which chain has the best turkey sandwich, I decided to test them from two popular brands: Subway and Potbelly Sandwich Shop. Here's how the same turkey sandwich from Subway and Potbelly Sandwich Shop measured up.

There has been a barrage of bad news about food lately. Ten people died after eating Boar’s Head deli meat in a listeria outbreak that hospitalized dozens of others. This month, there has been a food recall nearly every day. But a closer examination of data on foodborne illnesses and food recalls shows a more complicated picture. “I won’t say the food supply is getting less safe, but it’s not getting safer either,” said Donald Schaffner, a professor of food science at Rutgers University.

CNN —The McRib is returning to menus this holiday season – but don’t get used to it. New York CNN —McDonald’s is hoping a new value menu will win back customers that have been put off by its higher prices. On Friday, the fast-food chain unveiled the “McValue” menu, a new, budget-friendly category that will roll out at US restaurants on January 7, 2025. Also on the McValue menu are more in-app offers, plus local food and drink deals organized by its franchisees. But the dollar menu proved relatively unpopular compared to the far more successful $5 value meal, which rolled out this summer. The McValue menu will replace what’s left of it.

About 167,000 pounds of both fresh and frozen ground beef products have been recalled over possible E. coli contamination, according to the the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Fifteen people were reported sick as of Nov. 20, with symptoms beginning between Nov. 2 and Nov. 10. That same day, the FSIS said in a press release, the Minnesota Department tested a ground beef sample from Wolverine Packing Co. and found that it contained a strain of harmful bacteria called E. coli O157:H7. The FSIS provided a list of all affected products and images of every product label that is part of the recall. E. coli O157:H7 is the same strain of bacteria linked to onions in some McDonald’s Quarter Pounders in October.

A group of more than a dozen Republican lawmakers is urging a collegiate athletic conference to ban transgender women from competition after reports of a trans student competing on the s women’s volleyball team of a participating university. “Under these guidelines, it is only fair that biological males play men’s sports and biological females play women’s sports.”“Clearly, the Mountain West Conference has dropped the ball,” it continues. In September, SJSU volleyball player Brooke Slusser joined a lawsuit filed by more than a dozen women athletes against the NCAA, which oversees collegiate athletics, about trans athletes’ participation in school sports. The lawsuit argues that the NCAA violated the Title IX rights of cisgender female athletes by allowing transgender women to compete against them. Just last week, Slusser and 10 other former and current athletes in the Mountain West Conference filed a separate lawsuit against the conference and three SJSU staffers, accusing them of violating players’ Title IX rights.

McDonald’s is preparing 2025 value offerings in a bid to hang onto customers who are fed up with high costs at restaurants. Local value offerings have been on menus across the country and in the app as of late, including 10 piece nuggets for $1, among other deals, as a part of the broader value strategy. While operators are still voting on the 2025 value offerings, the initiative looks likely to pass, two people familiar with the matter said. In its most recent quarter, McDonald’s reported earnings and revenue that topped expectations, but saw its same-store sales fall globally by 1.5%. And when you do that with news and great marketing, you can get strong full margin check that goes along with some of those value programs,” he said.
