☆ Why nursing schools are turning away applicants amid a major staffing shortage

CNN —At a time when registered nurses are going on strike to protest staffing shortages, thousands of applicants who want to enter or advance in the profession are being turned away from nursing schools. Nearly 78,200 qualified applications were not offered spots at nursing schools last year, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, which represents schools with baccalaureate and advanced degree programs. Staffing shortages are the main reason why nursing schools are not able to accept more students who want to become registered nurses. Staffing shortages are also a major factor in the current strike by more than 75,000 unionized employees, including registered nurses, at Kaiser Permanente. The national median salary for nursing school professors with master’s degrees is just under $89,000, according to the nursing college association.

They lead the majority of their lives in a group setting, in pods of up to 20 other killer whales, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The orcas' choice not to eat the porpoises was consistent with what Marino had seen in her years in the field. This week's crypto-industry crackdown by the SEC has sent the price of Coinbase stock falling. Just 24 minutes before the SEC announced its lawsuit against Binance, a trader made a big options trade betting on a stock decline, Bloomberg found. Depending on if and when the trader closed their position, the wager could've paid out up to $2.6 million. As the regulatory authority announced back-to-back lawsuits, first against Binance and then against Coinbase, asset prices pegged to the industry tumbled. Few felt the brunt of the crackdown quite like Coinbase stock itself.

Fund managers in the latest BofA Global Research survey named shorting the dollar as the market's third "most crowded" trade. The dollar is "in a very messy transition from bull market to a bear market," said Aaron Hurd, senior portfolio manager, currency, at State Street Global Advisors. Hurd expects the dollar to remain buoyant over the very short term, but decline steadily over the next few years. Most investors believe the dollar will likely remain elevated until U.S. data turns decidedly weaker, allowing the Fed to cut rates. "The dollar strength is entirely related to the fact that U.S. data is actually pretty good," said Alvise Marino, a strategist at Credit Suisse.

Roman Viñoly says he is now ready to sell the co-op, situated between Duane and Thomas Streets, and has placed it on the market for $2.5 million. Mr. Viñoly says that both he and his father had fond memories of the downtown loft. “It’s a very small community,” he said of the four-unit building with a ground-floor commercial tenant, “and we all look after each other.”
