☆ Bitcoin hits highest level since July, boosting other coins and crypto-related stocks

The price of bitcoin neared $68,400 on Wednesday, reaching its highest level since July and sparking a rally across the crypto sector. Bitcoin is up more than 9% over the last week and ether is up about 7%. Other popular coins have also rallied, with solana up close to 10% in the past seven days and and dogecoin up 15%. Digital asset exchange Coinbase climbed almost 7% on Wednesday, bringing its three-day rally to 19%. Bitcoin miners Marathon Digital and Riot Platforms also moved higher on Wednesday.

CNN —A record number of early votes have been cast in Georgia on Tuesday as residents headed to the polls in a critical battleground state that is grappling with the fallout from Hurricane Helene and controversial election administration changes that have spurred a flurry of lawsuits. More than 300,000 ballots were cast Tuesday, Gabe Sterling of the Georgia secretary of state’s office said on X. Georgia election officials say absentee ballots went out by the US Postal Service as scheduled and were not impacted by the storm. It’s also possible that the state could continue to see high numbers of early votes given that Georgia law now mandates two Saturdays of early voting and allows for two Sundays of early voting if a county desires. Legal fights continueMeanwhile, state judges are scrutinizing a number of new rules passed by the Trump-backed Republican majority on the State Election Board that Democrats warn could inject post-election “chaos” into the Georgia.

Flutter Entertainment – The FanDuel parent company popped 4% after Wells Fargo upgraded shares to overweight , saying that investors should consider buying the stock following the recent sell-off. Boeing also postponed the delivery of its still-uncertified 777X wide-body plane and forecasted a wider-than-expected loss for the third quarter. Sirius XM Holdings – The audio entertainment company rose 3.5% after Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway disclosed that it purchased more of the stock. Caterpillar – The industrial company slipped more than 2% after Morgan Stanley downgraded shares to underweight from equal weight.

The field gun featured: a D-74 122mm howitzer, which the Soviet Union developed in the late 1940s. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy estimated in February that Russia was receiving at least 1 million artillery shells from North Korea. CNN —Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich obliterated the women’s marathon world record in Chicago on Sunday as she completed the course in 2:09:56, becoming the first ever woman to break the 2:10 barrier. Chepngetich shaved almost two minutes off the previous world record of 2:11:53, which was set by Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa in September 2023, and secured her third ever race win in Chicago. Her new world record is still subject to the usual ratification procedure, according to World Athletics. “I fought a lot, thinking about the world record. The world record has come back to Kenya, and I dedicate this world record to Kelvin Kiptum,” she added, referencing her compatriot who set the men’s world record in Chicago last year and died in a road accident aged 24 in February.
