Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump looks on during his campaign event, in Racine, Wisconsin, U.S. June 18, 2024. In 2020, before Biden took office, the SEC accused Ripple and its founders of violating securities laws by acting as unregistered brokers of digital currency tokens, which the SEC regulates as securities. In 2023, the SEC filed a similar complaint against Coinbase, the largest U.S. crypto exchange platform. Trump has seized on this frustration in recent months, recasting himself from a crypto skeptic into a crypto supporter. A painting in Dyrham House, a grand mansion in southwest England, offers a panoramic view of the port of Bridgetown, Barbados, with sugar plantations dotted along a hillside. In another room are two carved figures depicting kneeling Black men, holding scallop shells overhead. They are chained at the ankles and neck. These works belonged to William Blathwayt, who owned Dyrham in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and, as Britain’s auditor general of plantation revenues, oversaw the profits that rolled in from the colonies. Explaining the history of a place like Dyrham can be contentious, as the National Trust, the nearly 130-year-old charity that manages many of Britain’s prized historic homes, has found out.

Theodore Roosevelt’s favorite pocket watch, which he carried around the world and wore in the White House, was returned Thursday to the president’s former home on Long Island decades after it was stolen from a mansion in Buffalo. The watch itself is “fairly pedestrian,” with an “inexpensive coin silver case,” the F.B.I. It was a present from Roosevelt’s sister, Corinne Roosevelt Robinson, and he cherished it. “You could not have given me a more useful present than the watch; it was exactly what I wished,” he wrote in a letter to her. Tweed Roosevelt, Teddy’s great-grandson, learned about the watch this Tuesday, when the Park Service contacted him about its recovery, he said.

Still, conversations about a possible drift toward Donald Trump, though, are evident in the several Jewish elected Democratic leaders who grimaced and ducked when asked by CNN to discuss their sense of Jewish support for Biden. Talking with Jewish voters in Michigan, “I’ve had a couple of people say point blank, ‘How could any Jew vote for a Democrat?’” said Troy Zukowski, the West Michigan chair of the Michigan Jewish Democrats. The president does have some key Jewish voices of support in important places. Trump’s support among Jewish voters in 2020, at 30% according to Associated Press exit polls, was the highest for a Republican presidential candidate in decades. The expected central theme of that effort, according to one of the people involved, will be: As a Jewish American, do you feel safer than you did four years ago?

The real estate empire that he helped to build in the sky in multimillion-dollar perches of glass and steel in both cities is now crumbling under mounting allegations of violent sexual assault. Mr. Alexander, 36, was accused in two separate lawsuits filed earlier this year of sexually assaulting two women more than a decade ago. Oren’s identical twin brother, Alon, an executive in a private security firm, is also named as a defendant in both complaints.
