The UK government-mandated National Living Wage will rise to 10.42 pounds an hour from April, an increase of 9.7%. Costa Coffee said its latest rise takes the increase over the last 12 months to over 14%. Rival Pret announced another pay rise for its staff last week, while food retailers Tesco (TSCO.L), Asda and Marks & Spencer (MKS.L) have also all recently announced increases. Costa Coffee said it also provides workers with a store performance related bonus, free drinks while on shift and a 50% staff discount.

WASHINGTON — One of the men charged with assaulting Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick on Jan. 6 was sentenced to over 6 years in prison on Friday. His co-defendant, George Tanios, who bought the spray and handed it to Khater, was also sentenced, to time served. Sicknick died a day after being assaulted, but prosecutors declined to charge the two men with his death. As part of his sentencing, Tanios will be on probation for one year and will be required to participate in 100 hours of community service. Garza filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Tanios, Khater and former President Donald Trump earlier this month.

The largest checks went to short- and long-term residents of Illinois, where TikTok was sued for violating the state's strict biometric data laws by collecting and implementing facial recognition data into its algorithms without user consent. On the surface, facial recognition features on social media seem harmless, if not beneficial to the user experience — but experts say there are underlying consequences.
