SALT LAKE CITY — John Curtis, a Republican congressman from Utah, has become a favorite of the crypto industry in his bid to win the Senate seat held by the departing Mitt Romney. "They looked at me like I was from another planet," Curtis told the crowd at the Permissionless conference. Curtis, 64, said he realized then that lawmakers needed to be smarter about regulations and actually understand the user experience. Additionally, the PAC spent more than $1.5 million to oppose Curtis' Republican primary challenger, Trent Staggs.

Donald Trump's crypto project, World Liberty Financial, published a 13-page document on Thursday, describing its mission, how tokens can be allocated, and indicating that the Republican presidential nominee and his family could take home 75% of net revenue. The paper released on Thursday shows that Trump and his family assume no liability. Folkman previously had a company called Date Hotter Girls and reportedly helped develop crypto project Dough Finance. Folkman previously said just 20% of WLF's tokens would be allotted to the founding team, which includes the Trump family. The paper calls Trump the "chief crypto advocate."

World Liberty Financial — which bills itself as a crypto bank where customers will be encouraged to borrow, lend and invest in digital coins — began its token sale on Tuesday morning. On Monday, project co-founder Zachary Folkman bragged in a pre-launch stream on X that "well over 100,000 people" were whitelisted to invest. "However, these numbers are just, in my opinion, unheard of, and I think we're setting all sorts of new records in crypto." The platform says, so far, it has sold more than 788 million tokens at $0.015 per token. That is less than 4% of the 20 billion tokens made available for public sale and amounts to around $11.8 million, still well off the $300 million fundraising target.

Adam Gray | Afp | Getty ImagesA political action committee supporting former President Donald Trump has raised about $7.5 million in cryptocurrencies. The PAC said the latest filing covered donations in the period of July 1 through Sept. 30, but numbers included cumulative contributions. At least 18 donors gave more than $5.5 million in bitcoin to Trump 47, the filing shows. Trump said in his keynote that his campaign had raised $25 million from the crypto industry, though he didn't specify the split between digital tokens and dollar donations. Among the new donors is Chase Herro, one of the co-founders of the Trump family's new crypto project World Liberty Financial.

In total, Larsen has given around $1.9 million to support Harris' campaign directly and through PACs, according to FEC data compiled by crypto market and blockchain analyst James Delmore and independently verified by CNBC. Nearly half of all the corporate money flowing into the election has come from the crypto industry, according to a recent report from the nonprofit watchdog group Public Citizen. "What we've had to date has been almost like purposeful chaos by Gensler to kind of crush the domestic industry," Larsen said. Horowitz said that he and his wife, Felicia, "have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time." On Monday, the Harris campaign unveiled its "Opportunity Agenda for Black Men" in a report.

Donald Trump's new crypto project is off to a rough start. But WLF's website suffered regular and lengthy outages for much of the morning and early afternoon, contributing to a limited number of sales. That's less than 3% of the 20 billion tokens made available for public sale. Over the course of the day, the website frequently showed a page saying, "We are under maintenance." The glitchy launch is a potential setback to the Republican presidential nominee with just three weeks until the election.

World Liberty Financial is separate and apart from Trump Media & Technology Group , the parent company of social media platform Truth Social. Trump Media, known by ticker symbol DJT, started trading in March, after going public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). On Tuesday, the former president and current Republican nominee aims to launch WLFI, the token accompanying his new crypto project called World Liberty Financial. Trump owns about 57% of DJT's outstanding shares, but his potential control over World Liberty Financial is more opaque. Folkman added that WLF would publish the "long-awaited" roadmap for the project on Tuesday, in tandem with the token sale.

A German national who was under home detention in New York City on a $5 million bond guaranteed by his domestic partner and children in a case in which he was charged with overseeing a $150 million cryptocurrency fraud is now a fugitive. After noticing that Jicha's ankle bracelet was not working, Pretrial Services officials sent him an email directing him to visit their office the next day. Jicha did not show up, the prosecutor told U.S. District Court Judge Orelia Merchant. Only then did Pretrial Services inform prosecutors that Jicha's ankle bracelet had ceased working, 26 hours after becoming aware of that fact, the prosecutor told the judge. CNBC has requested comment from Pretrial Services in Brooklyn federal court.

Almost all of the creditors of failed crypto company FTX will end up profiting from the money they put into the exchange, a federal bankruptcy judge ruled Monday. Ray, who also shepherded Enron through bankruptcy, added that the estate is working to finalize arrangements to make distributions to creditors around the world. FTX previously estimated that it owes creditors around $11.2 billion. According to the plan approved by Delaware bankruptcy Judge John Dorsey, 98% of FTX's creditors will get 119% of the amount of their allowed claim as of November 2022, when the exchange filed for bankruptcy protection. The bankruptcy estate says it will make a separate announcement about the date the payout plan will go into effect and when it anticipates the start of distributions.
