But starting in your fifties, Dr. Mendez said, the area of the brain in charge of memory retrieval is less efficient. So if you’re struggling to remember “that movie starring that guy,” the memory is often there, Dr. Mendez said — it just takes longer to surface. We are inundated with so much information each day, said Dr. Davis, and the brain has to manage memories. “Forgetting is a normal part of one’s brain function,” he said. It’s not good for your brain health in general, but as we get older, our capacity to multitask “typically diminishes,” he said.

The National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) said that the crocodile was later shot so that authorities could recover the body of the young man. According to Mendez, there are already communities promoting boat tours to watch crocodiles in several rivers in the area. CNN —Just days after three New Jersey public school systems simultaneously enacted policies requiring educators to notify parents of changes in their children’s gender identity, the state is pursuing legal action. New Jersey State Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced the complaints against the Middletown Township, Marlboro Township and Manalapan-Englishtown Regional boards of education, all in Monmouth County. When contacted by phone on Friday, a representative of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District declined to comment on the matter. CNN has reached out to the Middletown Township Public School District. In May, state officials also filed a civil rights complaint after similar changes were enacted at the Hanover Township Board of Education.

The first, CALLING THE MOON: 16 Period Stories From BIPOC Authors (Candlewick, 368 pp., $22.99, ages 10 and up), is an anthology of short stories and prose poems. The title “Calling the Moon” is a reference to menstruation, which usually happens once a month and which some of the anthology’s characters call a moon or luna. Many of the young characters are quick-thinking, improvising ways to handle an unexpected emergence of blood, including the wadding up of pieces of toilet paper as a method of absorption. But I blanched at her use of the word “menstruators” to encompass people who have periods but don’t identify as female. I have to think that we can come up with something else, maybe simply “people who have periods.”

CNN —Forty-five bags containing human remains with characteristics matching seven missing call center staff has been discovered in a ravine in a suburb of Guadalajara, according to the state prosecutor’s office in Jalisco. Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruíz, a Jalisco prosecutor, said they found the human remains inside bags thrown on a lot with a very steep slope. The Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences is working with the families of those missing to determine the identification of the human remains. The country has been troubled by an epidemic of disappearances with more than 100,000 Mexicans and migrants still missing. Kidnapping and human trafficking are also not unusual in parts of Mexico, particularly in border areas and Mexico’s overall homicide rate is among the highest in the world.

They finished well before 7 a.m. and Mendez drove home at 6:30 a.m. At that time of day there is little traffic, so it took him just 10 minutes. Like dozens of others, Mendez worked tirelessly to make sure the arena could handle its frenetic week. The busiest time came in the 36 hours after the Kings game Friday, when the building turned over from the Kings to the Clippers to the Lakers and back to the Kings. All three teams have called the arena home since 1999, when it opened as Staples Center. “My favorite part of this is when they’re done,” said Lee Zeidman, the president of Crypto.com Arena; the nearby Microsoft Theater; and the surrounding entertainment district, L.A. BUENOS AIRES, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Argentina's annual inflation hit its highest rate in more than 30 years last month as prices almost doubled versus a year ago, official data released on Thursday showed, further eroding consumers' dwindling purchasing power. The annual rate marks the fastest clip of rising prices in more than three decades, or since 1991, according to INDEC. Argentina is battling one of the highest inflation rates in the world as soaring prices hamper growth and force shopkeepers to constantly update price tags. In a recent interview, Economy Minister Sergio Massa projected December inflation would not exceed 5%, adding that monthly increases should edge down to around 3% by April. "It's a psychological factor that wears you out because... wages do not increase like inflation increases," said Aurelio Narvaja, a 41-year-old teacher.

The South American country is battling rampant inflation which is set to end the year at around 95.5%, one of the highest levels in the world. In a recent interview, Economy Minister Sergio Massa said monthly inflation would not exceed 5% in December and noted the objective was for it to stand at around 3% in April. However, estimates from 19 local and foreign analysts showed a slightly higher rise in the consumer price index for the late month of 2022, with projections ranging from 4.9% to 6.3%. Economists expect monthly inflation to remain around 5% for the start of 2023, driven by an economic slowdown and price cap agreements on retail products. "But risks remain elevated, and the shortage of (U.S.) dollars may translate into a further escalation of parallel (market) dollars, leading to higher inflation," said Isaias Marini, an economist at consultancy Econviews.

John Leguizamo is an Emmy and Tony award-winning actor, and he's calling out Hollywood. In an open letter to Hollywood, he says it's way past time that Latinos have more lead roles. In an "Open Letter to Hollywood" published in the LA Times, Leguizamo said the time for more Latino representation in film, TV, and plays is way past overdue. Leguizamo argued that the absence of Latinos onscreen isn't even reflective of the city in which Hollywood resides. Latino representation also means including Latinos of all hues, since "more often than not," the Latinos who are cast in major roles are "white-passing."
