New York CNN —A majority of Black Americans say they feel at least somewhat successful but nevertheless feel financial pressures regardless of income, according to a new survey released Thursday by the Pew Research Center. The survey of more than 4,700 Black Americans sought their views on what constitutes success — how they define it, how they view themselves in that context and the concerns they have in achieving it. “Most Black Americans (66%) consider themselves at least somewhat successful,” Pew researchers wrote in their analysis. And regardless of income, most Black adults said they feel financial pressures. In an analysis of Black Americans’ income in July, Pew noted that only 6% of Black adults in the US made $100,000 or more in 2021.

The Direct File pilot program is rolling out in stages. The agency estimates that several hundred thousand taxpayers are eligible for the initial rollout in the 2024 tax season. Four other states that have a state income tax also are part of the pilot program — Arizona, Massachusetts, California and New York. A guaranteed basic income program in Austin gave people $1,000 a month for a year. AdvertisementA guaranteed basic income plan in one of Texas's largest cities reduced rates of housing insecurity. Austin was the first city in Texas to launch a tax-payer-funded basic income program when the Austin Guaranteed Income Pilot kicked off in May 2022. On average, program participants spent more than half of the cash they received on housing, the report's authors wrote. Harris County, which includes Houston, earlier this month launched a guaranteed basic income program that gives low-income residents up to $500 a month.
