The anonymous text messages warned her husband – who has been a vocal holdout against Jordan – to back the Ohio Republican. Jordan on Wednesday condemned the death threats, saying “it’s just wrong.”“It should never happen,” Jordan said as he left his office Wednesday night. Womack derided what he called the “attack, attack, attack” tactics of Jordan allies against his Republican opponents. “Frankly, just based on what I’ve been through – I can only speak to myself and what my staff has been through over the last 24 or 48 hours – it is obvious what the strategy has been: Attack, attack, attack. There have also been pro-Jordan robocalls targeting voters in Rep. Carlos Gimenez’s district as well as other members’ district, according to the Florida Republican’s office.

Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., September 26, 2023. A near-miss on a debt ceiling showdown in the Spring led to the loss of another Triple-A sovereign credit rating. A fiscal adjustment akin to the one enacted in 1993 would be enough to do that again over 5 years. "However, this looks unlikely anytime soon given congressional gridlock, a lack of political attention to deficit reduction and the upcoming 2024 election," it concluded. On current poll readings at least, next year's election will do nothing to end the fiscal war.

It forecasts that Britain, with a 2030 fossil-fuel car sale ban, could be short 25,000 EV technicians by 2032. And Australia could be 9,000 EV technicians short by 2030, the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce predicts. CEO Lawrence Whittaker said Warrantywise must use expensive franchise dealers to fix EVs because they more often have qualified technicians than independent shops. Customers lacking EV repair options already come from far afield. The IMI estimates 20% of UK automotive technicians have received some EV training, but only 1% are qualified to do more than routine maintenance.

He did not pitch for all of 2019 while recovering from Tommy John surgery on the same elbow, but he continued to hit. Ohtani leads the majors with 44 home runs and a .664 slugging percentage. All are accused of running afoul of the state's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, law. “You can tell a great story in your indictment, and you might be able to prove it. “The problem with RICO is that it takes a lot longer because there are so many more elements to it,” said Jerry Froelich, a Georgia criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. In RICO cases, defendants are often loosely associated, making it easier for prosecutors to get them to "flip," or turn on one another. Georgia courts have upheld the law’s use in novel contexts that include Willis' successful prosecution of teachers who falsified scores on standardized tests.

The consumer price index report out Thursday is supportive of a soft landing. We'll see if it turns around this recent swoon in the stock market. There's an old saw on Wall Street: in corrections it takes a lot longer to lose the first 5% because people buy the dip. The macro data (China excepted), including today's CPI, has been supportive of the soft landing. There's a huge swath of investors that seem perfectly happy to collect 5% yields on their 1-year Treasuries, market rally be damned.

Biden announced a new plan to transition borrowers back into repayment after his broad debt relief was struck down. The plan includes a 12-month "on-ramp" period and a new income-driven repayment plan. Along with the on-ramp period, Cardona also said his department has finalized a new income-driven repayment plan for borrowers. If a borrower is already enrolled in the REPAYE plan — an existing income-driven repayment plan — they will automatically be put on the SAVE plan when it becomes available. If a borrower is enrolled in an income-driven repayment plan, they can go to studentaid.gov and select the "My Aid" page, which will list their repayment plan.

After the Supreme Court struck down Biden's first student-debt relief plan, he announced he'll be trying again. He started the process to use the Higher Education Act of 1965, but it will take longer this time. On Friday, the high court struck down Biden's first plan to cancel up to $20,000 in student debt for federal borrowers using the HEROES Act of 2003. While Republican lawmakers lauded the Supreme Court decision, Democratic lawmakers celebrated Biden's effort to try again under the Higher Education Act. The President has the clear legal authority to cancel student debt under the Higher Education Act.

However, Neiss thinks the BoE is unlikely to raise interest rates as much as markets have priced in. In a Reuters poll this week, economists predicted the BoE would raise interest rates just twice more, taking rates to a peak of 5% by August or September. The BoE faces three big challenges when assessing how much more rate tightening it needs to do. Fewer households have mortgages and more are on fixed rates - so a key channel for higher interest rates to affect the economy now operates with a delay. "If the Bank of England accelerated policy tightening now, that would smack of panic or a loss of control," McGuire said.
