Tom Carpenter“I saw an uptick in people traveling with their pets early in 2024,” said Heather Eisenstadt, founder of Top Dog Pet Travel, a central Florida agency specializing in pet-friendly bookings. While analysts don’t track pet travel outlays specifically, some airlines and hotels appear eager to welcome more furry guests — aware that many visitors will pay a premium for it. Some pet owners say they wouldn’t make use of it anyway. Hosts on both platforms set their own pet fees. But the 41-year-old warehouse supervisor from Allentown, Pennsylvania, sees hotel pet fees of up to $200 as reasonable.

Read previewA nutrition researcher said that switching up her breakfast routine has helped her beat the 4 o' clock crash. Berry found out that her blood sugar was crashing every afternoon when she had a high-carb breakfast, which helped explain the exhaustion she'd been feeling. A high-protein breakfast can provide lasting fuelPrior to checking out her blood sugar response, Berry might have a pastry or white toast for breakfast. "An increase in circulating blood sugar is a normal physiological response to eating carbohydrate," she said. For instance, there's some evidence that eating late at night can prompt a bigger blood sugar response, but Berry said it's worth it to have dinner with her family.

Read previewYou don't have to cut out carbs to balance your blood sugar for better health and energy, according to a top nutrition researcher. Choose high-fiber carbs like whole grains and berriesThe type of carbs you chose can also influence your blood sugar response. A recent ZOE study found that people had a more moderate response in blood sugar when they ate a meal for breakfast, but a larger blood sugar response to the same meal when they ate it later in the day. Take a short walk after mealsAnother way to manage your blood sugar is to get moving, since exercise helps use up stored energy and makes you more sensitive to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar. Russian intelligence services are building up their presence in Mexico for spy operations targeting the United States, a return to Cold War tactics by an increasingly aggressive regime, according to U.S. officials and former intelligence officers. The Mexican Embassy and the Russian Embassy did not respond to a request for comment. “Part of this is a function of the fact that so many Russian intelligence officers have been kicked out of Europe. Those are Russian intelligence personnel, and they keep an eye very closely on their opportunities to have influence on U.S. opportunities and access,” VanHerck said. Russian intelligence could conceivably also take advantage of Mexico’s proximity to target Putin’s political enemies inside the U.S., former intelligence officers said.

London CNN —Scientists in the United Kingdom have stored the entire human genome on a “5D memory crystal,” in the hope that it could be used in the future as a blueprint to bring humanity back from extinction. The crystal is stored in the Memory of Mankind archive in Hallstatt, Austria. “The visual key inscribed on the crystal gives the finder knowledge of what data is stored inside and how it could be used,” said Kazansky. In 2018, Kazansky and his team used the memory crystal technology to store Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” trilogy of science fiction books, which were then launched into space aboard a Tesla Roadster. The technology has also been used to store major documents from human history, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Magna Carta.

But those failing to tempt their child to eat their broccoli can take solace, as research has found that picky eating is largely down to genes rather than environment. They found that non-identical twin pairs were much less similar when it came to picky eating than identical twin pairs. Picky eating “often causes a lot of stress for the children and their families,” Moritz Herle, a researcher at King’s College London and one of the study’s lead authors, said. The study found that environmental factors can, however, have an impact on a child’s food pickiness when they are a toddler. Abigail Pickard, a researcher in developmental child psychology at Aston University who wasn’t involved in the research, told CNN that picky eating is “quite common” in children.

I was an immigrant child, and growing up in the UK in an Albanian family wasn't easy. It's ironic, given that I now run two fitness businesses and my main passion is getting women into strength training. I now run two fitness businesses that combined made over $70 million last year. What strength training does for your mind and body is profound; it's so empowering. It was good for SEO but contradicted our message and ethos, which is that strength training is about more than just how your body looks.

Russia announced the expulsions hours before British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House, a crucial step towards winning the go-ahead for Kyiv to use long-range missiles against targets in Russia. Neither Biden nor Starmer addressed long-range missiles in brief comments in front of reporters. Sources say the meeting is another step in talks to allow Ukraine to use Western long-range missiles against targets in Russia, something Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been demanding for months. The six UK diplomats were named on Russian state TV, which also showed photographs of them. The FSB said Russia would ask other British diplomats to go home early if they were found to be engaged in similar activity.

PARIS — There are few sights more iconic than the Eiffel Tower and the Olympic rings. The multicolored logo adorned the Eiffel Tower during the Paris 2024 Games, just as they had hung from London’s Tower Bridge in 2012 and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 2000. However, Hidalgo announced in the French media Aug. 31 that the rings would stay on the Eiffel Tower, until at least 2028 and perhaps beyond. Many experts say short-term rentals, including Airbnbs, are part of the problem, restricting local housing supply and driving up prices. We took a look at three European hubs — Lisbon, Florence, and Amsterdam — that have imposed relatively strict regulations on short-term rentals. Cities have been worried about the impact of short-term rentals on housing costs for years. Instead of a blanket ban, Amsterdam caps the number of nights hosts can rent out their homes at 30 a year. In an increasingly tight housing market, the dominance of short-term rentals acts as an "amplifier," he said.
