Until this week, Fain had announced all of the union's new strikes on Fridays, during what has become a weekly livestreamed update for union members. "We continue to believe the escalation at [Ford] this week is a sign the talks may be coming to an end. KY Truck is likely Ford's most profitable plant, and therefore the strike is the highest level of escalation, aside from a national strike," Wells Fargo analyst Colin Langan wrote in a Friday note. But the UAW's leaders may be looking one more step ahead, to the process of selling a tentative deal with Ford to their members. ), and that UAW members have secured the last few ounces of wage, benefits, and job protection concessions that they can get," Lache wrote Thursday to investors.

About 4,600 Ford workers could be idled because their jobs depend on production of Super Duty pickups and large Lincoln and Ford SUVs at Kentucky Truck, said Ford manufacturing vice president Bryce Currie. Already, 13,000 workers at Ford suppliers have been furloughed because of earlier UAW walkouts at two Ford assembly plants, Ford supply chain chief Liz Door said. DETROIT (AP) — The United Auto Workers union significantly escalated its walkout against Detroit's Three automakers, shutting down Ford's largest factory and threatening Jeep maker Stellantis. “Here's to hoping talks at Stellantis today are more productive than Ford yesterday,” Fain wrote on X, formerly Twitter, without saying what might happen. Ford's truck plant makes heavy-duty F-Series pickup trucks and large Ford and Lincoln SUVs, hitting the company's most lucrative products. The company, however, called the strike expansion “grossly irresponsible” and said it has made strong wage and benefit offers to the union. The Kentucky strike brings to 33,700 the number of workers on strike against the three automakers.

CNN —The United Auto Workers union surprised Ford with a major escalation of its strike, ordering workers off the job at the company’s largest plant. “We have been crystal clear, and we have waited long enough, but Ford has not gotten the message,” said UAW President Shawn Fain. He said that the union wanted a different offer from Ford from what it had presented before. The UAW has been on strike against not only Ford, but also General Motors and Stellantis, since September 15. By hitting the Kentucky Truck Plant, the union is going after a much more profitable part of Ford’s line-up.

The UAW said that 8,700 union members at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant went on strike after the union said the No. For the past four weeks, UAW President Shawn Fain ordered new walkouts on Fridays in video addresses. Wednesday's move came as Ford and UAW bargainers were working to resolve differences on retirement security and union representation of Ford's future battery plants, a Ford official said. The Ford official said Shawn Fain and other UAW officials called a meeting with Ford at 5:30 pm ET on Wednesday and demanded a new offer. Before Wednesday's Ford announcement the union had ordered walkouts at five assembly plants, including two Ford plants, at the three companies and 38 parts depots operated by GM and Stellantis.

DETROIT, Sept 29 (Reuters) - United Auto Workers union President Shawn Fain is expected to launch walkouts at more Detroit Three auto factories Friday, barring last-minute progress in bargaining that has moved slowly since last week. Talks among the UAW and negotiators for the Detroit Three were described as "very active" by one person briefed on the situation. The union has shut one assembly plant at each of the Detroit Three, and 38 parts distribution centers at GM and Stellantis. However, strikes at these plants would have less impact as the models affected are either money-losers or substantially less profitable than the big pickups. The union launched its first walkouts on Sept. 15, with simultaneous strikes at one assembly plant at each automaker.
