An Arctic blast gripped the northern Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes Saturday morning, with millions of Americans under freeze warnings. CNN —A volcano near Iceland’s capital erupted on Wednesday night, becoming the seventh such event in the area since December. The length of the fissure on the volcano, located in Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula in the southwest of the country, is estimated to be approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles), according to the Icelandic Met Office. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday selected former Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York to oversee the Environmental Protection Agency in his administration. In a statement announcing the appointment, Trump described the former four-term House Republican from Long Island as "a true fighter for America First policies." We will do so while protecting access to clean air and water," Zeldin said in a statement on X. The New York Post first reported Zeldin's appointment — Trump's second Cabinet pick for his second term in office.
