Opinion | Where Is the Evidence, Speaker McCarthy?

But evidence that the president was himself involved in Hunter’s schemes or shared in any of the profits is thus far lacking, as is any evidence that the president violated the law. There is no evidence remotely comparable to the evidence that spurred inquiries against Clinton or Trump. They’d note that Joe Biden falsely denied that Hunter had business dealings in China. The deep concern that Joe Biden might have profited from his position sounds almost comical after the G.O.P. has spent years trying to divert Americans’ attention from the blatant way that the Trump administration steered federal dollars into Trump properties during his presidency.

Soccer Football - FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 - Final - Fans in London watch Spain v England - BOXPARK Wembley, London, Britain - August 20, 2023 England fans react after England lose the world cup final Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Couldridge Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 20 (Reuters) - England soccer fans went home in bitter disappointment on Sunday after losing the Women's World Cup final 1-0 to Spain, but in defeat many of them also found inspiration and hope for future generations in the sport. "They might have not won, and it's so sad, but they've done so much for women's football, and that's what matters," said Jennifer Maidment, a 25-year-old student who watched the game in London. The scale of the national excitement reflected the growing public profile of women's soccer in England, where the team's run to the final built on their victory at the European Championship last year. "We never had any role models as girls when we were younger, so to have role models now is amazing. For older generations, the progress since the first England women's international match in 1972 was clear.

When I lived in the US, most of my coworkers didn't even take lunch or if we did it was a working lunch. When I'm interviewing with a potential client or agency, I'm always upfront about living in Lisbon and working Portuguese hours. But what’s clear, she said, is “that current sea surface temperatures are exceptionally and unseasonably warm” and bringing wide-ranging implications, “especially for complex ecosystems such as coral reefs.”Gregory C. Johnson, an oceanographer at NOAA, said sea surface temperatures have soared this year. Surface temperatures tend to remain high from August through to September before starting to decline, said Johnson. “There’s still room to have warmer sea surface temperatures” this year. In the Florida Keys, a marine heat wave has pushed ocean temperatures to record-breaking, “hot tub” levels, leaving multiple coral reefs now completely bleached or dead. Some scientists are concerned that the ocean temperature records set this year could mark the start of an alarming trend for ocean heat.

A Stir-Fry to Convert Green Bell Pepper Skeptics
  + stars: | 2023-06-22 | by ( Eric Kim | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Next to its older siblings in blazing red, orange and yellow, the green bell pepper has never had the best reputation. But, if you’re trying to capture the edge of bitterness, where savory and sweet intermingle, then the green pepper might be your ideal implement. Perhaps the one dish where the diner must confront the unripe pepper head-on is pepper steak. For many Americans, what comes to mind is the saucy beef stir-fry seen on takeout menus and strewn with crunchy panels of Christmassy red and green bell peppers. The Chinese American pepper steak, she said, “feels like a culmination of all of those influences.” The Leungs — Sarah, Kaitlin, Bill and Judy — published their first proper pepper steak recipe only recently, in April, using oyster sauce, chicken stock and red bell peppers in addition to the green.

The sexism that has prevented girls from competing in sports has also prevented women from becoming youth coaches. In March, Nike launched Coaching HER in a partnership with the University of Minnesota's Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport. Fry co-founded the Strong Girls program at the University of Kansas, where young girls are assigned a female college student as their mentor. She says this approach isn't only benefit to girls, but extends to youth athletes of all genders, and female coaches as well. This week, CNN CEO Chris Licht was fired after a scathing profile was published in the Atlantic. In the profile, Licht details his own thoughts about how diversity should be defined in the media industry. In Alberta's profile, Licht claimed to be operating under his own idea of "diversity," one that does not include "virtue signaling." "I think 'Defund the police' would've been covered differently if newsrooms were filled with people who had lived in public housing," Licht continued. The diversity Licht did seem to value was geographic diversity, which can be a coded way of saying "not from the liberal coasts."

Damar Hamlin's on-field cardiac arrest at a "Monday Night Football" game in January was a moment of national trauma that occurred on live television. Still, his decision to play in the National Football League again after the personal medical trauma he experienced left many wondering how he was able to find the courage to return. And that was kind of like where I overcome my fears the most in my life," said Hamlin at the CNBC CEO event. Hamlin experienced commotio cordis, a rare cardiac condition that occurs when there is blunt impact to the chest at the same moment as the heart is preparing to contract. With prompt CPR and defibrillation, the survival and recovery rates after a commotio cordis episode are greater than 50%, according to the AHA.
CNN hosted a town hall with former President Donald Trump on Wednesday night. But CNN drew 3.3 million viewers, about what Tucker Carlson was drawing to his Fox News show. CNN's decision to host a town hall with former President Donald Trump was heavily criticized — both before and after the chaotic event took place Wednesday night — but still drew in 3.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings. The town hall ratings were also good news for CNN boss Christ Licht, who has worked to attract Republicans to the network since taking over as CEO in 2022. CNN's ratings Wednesday night were significantly lower than several Trump town halls put on by Fox News in 2020, including one held by host Sean Hannity in June 2020 that drew 5.1 million viewers.

A recent Ally Financial ad buy with Disney 's ESPN focused on women's sports may be the biggest deal yet — in importance as much as the dollars attached. The one-year, multimillion-dollar deal requires 90% of its investment to be put to women's sports, through expanding game highlights, branded content and features across ESPN. March 3 (Reuters) - Lawyers for two former 21st Century Fox executives accused of bribing South American soccer officials assailed the credibility of the government’s star witness on Friday, as their seven-week trial draws to a close. Cooperating witness Alejandro Burzaco testified that his former business partners knew about and approved the bribes. The case is part of a sweeping corruption probe of global soccer and its governing body, FIFA. Full Play Group SA, a co-defendant in the case, is also accused of bribing soccer officials. The Argentina-based sports marketing company’s lawyers have argued bribery is an entrenched part of doing business in South America and therefore not fraudulent activity.
A TikTok video showed a fishing boat off the coast of Louisiana surrounded by feasting sharks. One of the fisherman told Storyful he'd "never seen anything like it." The frantic sharks appeared to be eating a pod of small fish that could be seen in the water. At some points in the video, small fish can be seen frantically swimming below the surface in the midst of the sharks, which were even causing water to splash up onto the boat. Some of the sharks most commonly found along the coastlines include bull, thresher, hammerhead, nurse, and blacktip, among others.
