Organizers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics plan to hold swimming in the home of the NFL’s Rams and Chargers — and softball and canoe slalom in Oklahoma. That’s according to an amended venue plan unveiled Friday by LA28, the 2028 Games’ organizing committee. It will be the largest swimming venue in Games history, per LA28, with 38,000 seats. LA28 organizers faced one complication with the SoFi swimming plan, however: The stadium is also set to be part of the Games’ opening ceremonies. The venue plan adjustments are in part due to new arenas that have become available for use and a previously assigned venue that became unavailable, LA28 said.

LA28, the organizing committee, announced on Friday that the swimming competition at the 2028 Games would be held at SoFi Stadium, the home of the Rams and Chargers, the city’s two N.F.L. There will be at least 35,000 seats for fans, double the size of typical venues used for most Olympic swimming events — which, along with gymnastics and track and field, are one of the biggest draws for the Olympics. The decision to move the swimming events into the gleaming SoFi Stadium is a reflection of the economics of hosting the Olympics. This year’s Games, which begin in Paris at the end of July, may break even, officials have suggested.

Long before Katie Ledecky was collecting gold medals and setting world records, she seemed nonchalant about making it across the pool. Many of her early swims took place at Palisades Swim & Tennis Club, a wooded, family friendly setting in Cabin John, Md., near Washington. Her final meet at the club was in 2014, two years after she had won her first Olympic gold medal. “Palisades” is the first chapter of her new memoir, “Just Add Water,” which comes out on Tuesday, and the club’s pool remains her most meaningful place to swim.

CNN —With 100 days to go until the start of the Paris Olympics, Team USA is expected to top the medal table once again at this year’s Summer Games. According to a virtual Paris Olympics medal table released by Nielsen’s Gracenote, the US is forecast to win 123 medals in Paris – 39 gold, 37 silver and 47 bronze. “The United States team has medals projected in 27 different sports in the Virtual Medal Table, two sports fewer than the country’s own Olympic record of 29 which was set in Tokyo. Canadian teenager Summer McIntosh took the title at the U.S. Open championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday, beating Ledecky by nearly 3 seconds. McIntosh took the title in a meet record of 3 minutes, 59.42 seconds, while Ledecky touched next in 4:02.38.
