INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts will activate All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor this week and he could play Sunday against Tennessee. Coach Shane Steichen told reporters Monday he expects Taylor to practice starting Wednesday and the team will then evaluate whether he's ready to start playing in games. The former Wisconsin Badgers and New Jersey prep star missed all of the Colts offseason workouts following offseason ankle surgery and spent all of training camp and the first four weeks of the regular season on the PUP list. Taylor, the 2021 NFL rushing champ who rushed for nearly 3,000 combined yards in his first two seasons, has been mired in an ugly contact dispute with the team. Steichen said he has been speaking with Taylor regularly and that his top rusher is eager to get back to work.

Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer said that House Republicans have amassed “a mountain of evidence” showing that Biden “abused his public office for his family’s financial gain.”Yet, as has been the case since they began lobbing the sensational accusations, they offered nothing to support them. Turley added that, in his view, House Republicans passed the threshold for an impeachment inquiry into Biden’s conduct but that the evidence made public thus far lacks teeth and would, in his view, favor Biden. Thus far, no evidence has surfaced suggesting the president has accepted bribes or abused his positions in office. In at least one such cash transfer, Hunter Biden used the president’s home address in the wire form, which Republicans said on Thursday provides a critical link to the president. McCarthy gave his blessing to the impeachment inquiry earlier this month after pressure mounted from former President Donald Trump and his allies in the House.

One of the panel's expert witnesses, law professor Jonathan Turley, acknowledged that the evidence Republicans had gathered so far, however, doesn't prove their case. The House Republicans, Raskin said, were acting "like flying monkeys on a mission for the Wicked Witch of the West." The Democrats' witness was Michael J. Gerhardt, a law professor at the University of North Carolina who testified during Trump's first impeachment inquiry. House Republicans have said they are looking into whether Biden improperly aided his son or profited off his business dealings. The White House has repeatedly rejected the House GOP's assertion that Biden abused the power of his office to enrich his family.

Again, Republicans have not produced evidence that Joe Biden got paid in any of these arrangements. Jim Jordan falsely claims Hunter Biden said he was unqualified for Burisma boardRepublican Rep. Microsoft executive says Google deals kept Bing small

The Microsoft logo is seen at the Microsoft store in New York City, July 28, 2015. Jonathan Tinter, a Microsoft vice president whose job has been to help Bing grow, testified at the trial of the U.S. Justice Department's antitrust case against Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google. The department accuses Google of paying $10 billion annually to wireless carriers and smartphone makers to ensure that Google search is the default on their devices. Tinter said that Bing has struggled to win default status on smartphones sold in the United States, and that this smaller scale translated into poorer quality search. "We were just big enough to play but not big enough to win," Tinter said.

Summary Rules change means former Wallabies flyhalf eligibleSamoa target Chile clash as most winnable Pool D gameFormer All Blacks Luatua and Sopoaga also featureTOULOUSE, France, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Samoa have selected 35-year-old Christian Leali'ifano, who scored the most points for Australia at the 2019 World Cup, as flyhalf in their opening Pool D clash against Chile in Bordeaux on Saturday. Samoa are taking advantage of a relaxation in World Rugby's eligibility rules, which means players who stand down for three years from appearing for one country can then play for another for which they qualify. That means they can also field former All Blacks Steven Luatua, who starts at number eight, and the versatile Lima Sopoaga as a replacement back. Former Highlanders and Wasps player Sopoaga can play at flyhalf or fullback and, while New Zealand-born, qualifies for Samoa through his family background. Samoa will target Chile, the lowest ranked team at the tournament, as their most winnable game in a pool also containing England, Argentina and Japan as they look to progress from the pool stage for the first time since 1999.

A group of Colorado voters filed a lawsuit Wednesday to kick Donald Trump off the state's ballot in 2024, citing a nascent legal theory that proposes the former president is constitutionally barred from running for office. The complaint hinges on the argument that then-President Trump engaged in an insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, and is therefore disqualified from holding government office under the 14th Amendment. Trump has claimed that the growing attention to the theory, and legal actions stemming from it, are all part of a broader conspiracy against him. Law professor Jonathan Turley, who defended Trump during his first impeachment, called it "the ultimate Hail Mary pass" by Trump's critics. The legal interpretation being used to try to keep Trump from reclaiming power has rarely, if ever, been tested in the courts — a fact the plaintiffs in the Colorado suit acknowledge.

July 6 (Reuters) - A federal judge's order restricting Biden administration officials from contacting social media companies about moderating their content will face tough legal challenges on appeal, experts said. The Biden administration on Wednesday filed a notice with the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. THREAT OF HARMThe Biden administration has argued that there was no threat of harm because the lawsuit challenged communications that ended more than a year ago. It also said that while it urged social media companies to stop the spread of dangerous misinformation, the companies themselves - including Facebook and Instagram parent Meta Platforms Inc (META.O), YouTube owner Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) and Twitter Inc - ultimately made their own decisions. Burt Neuborne, a professor at New York University School of Law, was more skeptical of the free speech claims.

Speaker McCarthy is backing a GOP-led push to "expunge" the impeachments of former President Trump. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Elise Stefanik have introduced resolutions to absolve Trump. Legal scholar Jonathan Turley told Reuters that the Constitution doesn't list provisions for expunging impeachments. McCarthy said that the 2019 impeachment was "was not based on true facts" while adding that the 2021 vote was taken "on the basis of no due process." But the speaker later remarked that the resolutions introduced by Greene and Stefanik would need to proceed through the committee process.

US House Republicans seek to expunge Trump impeachments
  + stars: | 2023-06-23 | by ( David Morgan | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
Trump was just the third U.S. president to be impeached by the House and is the only one in U.S. history to have been impeached twice. Georgetown University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, whose expert advice Republicans sometimes seek, noted that the U.S. Constitution contains no provision for expunging impeachments. Greene's two-page resolution would expunge the 2019 impeachment, saying he was "wrongfully accused of misconduct." That won't stop the Republicans from doing it, and it's just further placating Donald Trump," said Representative Dan Goldman, who was lead Democratic counsel in the 2019 impeachment. On Wednesday, House Republicans censured Democratic Representative Adam Schiff over his leading role in the 2019 Trump impeachment.

No one will be above the law.”That’s what then-candidate Donald Trump said at a campaign rally in August of 2016. Trump has reached for apocalyptic rhetoric, calling for his supporters to protest at the Florida courthouse when he is arraigned on Tuesday. The threats of violence reflect an authoritarian impulse completely at odds with the alleged principles of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. Here’s the key difference: Trump was not charged for having the classified documents but for willfully trying to hide the documents after the feds enquired. When facts and reason no longer apply, desperate individuals resort to threats of violence.

The 37 federal charges against former President Donald Trump were unsealed on Friday. Trump announced the indictment on Truth Social and has been pushing his narrative since Thursday. While his team feels good about their response to the charges, that does not mean he's off the hook. While that puts him at a public relations advantage over special counsel Jack Smith, it doesn't mean he's clear of serious legal peril. And if Trump is convicted, the judge has a large say, within the guidelines, of whether he ever sees prison time.

DOJ will seek incarceration for Trump, a national security attorney and former US prosecutor say. McClanahan said evidence in the indictment was laid out to show "that this is a kingpin who knowingly broke the law, endangered national security, endangered nuclear weapon security, endangered other countries' national security." In this case, that looks likely to be US District Judge Aileen Cannon, who Trump appointed. It's more likely that, if convicted, he'd be sentenced to house arrest with an ankle monitor, McClanahan said. "Trump can share that information that is in his head whether he is incarcerated or not incarcerated," she said.
