A new terminal at New York's JFK will be partly powered by a microgrid, batteries, and fuel cells. John F. Kennedy International Airport's $9.5 billion New Terminal One will be partly powered by a microgrid with 11.34 megawatts of electricity from rooftop solar, gas fuel cells, and battery storage. A system that captures waste heat from the fuel cells will chill and warm water. The rooftop solar array — made up of more than 13,000 panels — will be the largest in New York City and at any US airport terminal, AlphaStruxure said. Installing fuel cells, instead of diesel generators, is estimated to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide, a toxic air pollutant, by 98%, Macias added.

NTSB spokeswoman Sarah Sulick told CNN interviews related to the investigation are ongoing, a detail that has not yet been reported elsewhere. Investigators will be able to listen to the radio transmissions, which have already been recorded and preserved. Those recordings would also reveal if the American pilots heard the instructions completely from the air traffic controllers and if so, how they apparently became confused. If the voice records inside the American cockpit are preserved, they may depict a detailed conversation about the aircraft’s on-the-ground movements. In this incident, radio recordings show controllers instructed the American pilots to place a phone call to officials at the tower to address the “possible pilot deviation” from the assigned route.
Brian Heale, a passenger on the Delta flight, said at first he thought the abrupt stop was a mechanical issue. “There was this abrupt jerk of the plane, and everyone was sort of thrust forward from the waist,” he recalled. The Delta plane stopped about 1,000 feet (about 0.3 kilometers) from where the American Airlines plane had crossed from an adjacent taxiway, according to the FAA statement. The plane returned to the gate, where the 145 passengers deplaned and were provided overnight accommodations, a Delta spokesperson said. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay of their travels,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

Arriving passengers line up to get taxi outside of Terminal 4 at the JFK airport in New York. Two New York men were arrested for conspiring with Russian nationals to hack the taxi dispatch system at John F. Kennedy International Airport so they could manipulate the line and charge drivers for access to the front of the queue, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. "I know that the Pentagon is being hacked… so can't we hack the taxi industry[?]" Typically, taxi drivers looking to pick up travelers at JFK wait in a holding lot before they're dispatched to a specific terminal in the order in which they arrived. "For years, the defendants' hacking kept honest cab drivers from being able to pick up fares at JFK in the order in which they arrived," Williams said.

A stowaway cat had snuck into a man's suitcase at JFK Airport, TSA said. TSA discovered the cat in an X-ray image, after staff noticed the outline of the animal. On November 16, TSA officers noticed the outline of a cat in an X-ray image during the screen of a passenger's suitcase, spokesperson Lisa Farbstein told The Washington Post. A photo posted by Farbstein showed the cat's rust-colored fur peeking from the zipper of the suitcase. One photo of the X-ray image showed a glowing red outline of the cat, and several of the passenger's belongings, which included wine glasses and bottles, as well as flip flops.
A TSA agent in New York City spotted a live feline trapped inside checked luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport — but safely got the cat out of the bag, authorities said Tuesday. "The cat did not belong to the individual with the suitcase, it belonged someone else in the household," TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told NBC News. The flagged luggage was taken aside and the cat rescued before the tabby could have ended up in the pressurized cargo hold. It "was implied" that the furball saw the open suitcase and jumped in without the traveler seeing it, Farbstein added. While "none of my current cats are suitcase jumpers," Houpt said she takes no chances and packs her bags on an elevated rack.

REUTERS/Shannon StapletonWASHINGTON, Nov 17 (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted final environmental approval for construction of a new $4.2 billion terminal at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, the state said on Thursday. New York state Governor Kathy Hochul said construction will begin early next year on a 1.2 million-square foot (111,480-square-meter), 10-gate terminal at JFK. A $1 trillion infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden in 2021 includes $15 billion for airport project grants. The FAA is expected to soon issue a similar environmental approval to a massive $8.5 billion project at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport that includes a new Terminal 2. Delta's glittering 1.3 million-square foot, $4 billion Terminal C began flights this summer.

WASHINGTON, Nov 4 (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Friday it would partially approve a request by JetBlue Airways (JBLU.O) to waive minimum flight requirements at New York-area airports John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty International. The decision allows JetBlue to hold on to valuable flight rights at some of the most congested U.S. airports. JetBlue sought the waiver in July, saying its "workforce and flight operations are under extraordinary strain, leaving little margin for operational challenges caused by airport construction, (air traffic control) delays and weather," the FAA said. The relief, which runs retroactively through Oct. 29, will allow JetBlue to hold on to some slots, which are takeoff and landing authorizations. Delta had asked the FAA to waive minimum slot requirements because of issues including New York airport construction, significant crew sick time, severe weather and air traffic control delays and cancellations.
