I asked ChatGPT questions about markets and showed the answers to Morningstar Investment Management CIO Dan Kemp. He called some of its knowledge "remarkable" – but isn't worried it'll put top strategists out of their jobs anytime soon. "It provides answers, but it doesn't ask questions like a good investment manager," Kemp said. Kemp told me he was impressed with the breadth of the bot's knowledge – especially its ability to avoid unnecessary jargon when producing stock market content. "It's an interesting mistake and it's one that lots of investors made last year – not every high risk comes with a high reward."
King says he avoided steep losses by trading commodities other than those attached to the oil price. Bumper performances at other oil funds have also been curtailed. Industry data suggests the performance of oil funds in 2022 was varied. Reuters Graphics Reuters GraphicsHedge funds that traded energy commodities using systematic - or computer-led - strategies show a narrower performance range. Among the top, Arion Investment Management's systematic energy fund is up 31% for the year so far.
Fresh projections by Fed policymakers released after next week's meeting are expected to reflect that, along with a forecast for no cuts to the policy rate until 2024. Reuters GraphicsThat could feed into arguments that the economy and labor markets are poised to weaken next year, easing inflation pressures. And those drops came despite the Fed lifting its policy rate by three-quarters-of-a-percentage point, to 3.75%-4% in early November. Meanwhile, unemployment has stayed at a low 3.7%, below where Fed policymakers had thought it would be as tighter policy slowed the economy. Reuters GraphicsPart of the reason the Fed may be more comfortable with easing financial conditions now than in the summer is simply that the Fed has already raised interest rates by nearly 4 percentage points.
Don't be surprised if economic data coming out over the next week kicks off a rally into the end of the year and potentially 2023, according to Andrew Slimmon, Morgan Stanley Investment Management's senior portfolio manager. The key period of data releases begins Friday with the producer price index, followed by November's consumer price index and another likely rate hike from the Federal Reserve next week. "The last time those were released they all led to rallies in the stock market because we had better inflation prints," he said. Like many investors, Slimmon expects a downturn ahead, given the inverted yield curve, but does not anticipate the "big earnings collapse," or downturn, many people are predicting in the first quarter. This is in part due to the fact that many consumers have beefed up savings in recent years given the proximity of the most recent recession.
Nov 24 (Reuters) - Manulife Financial Corp (MFC.TO) will outsource its property operations in Canada to focus on its entrepreneurial investment management unit, Canada's biggest life insurer said Thursday. The change to a new structure will result in Manulife Investment Management, which overseas the real estate portfolio, shedding 50 jobs, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday. Among other financial services companies, Canada's biggest lender, Royal Bank of Canada (RY.TO) and Bank of Montreal (BMO.TO) have recently cut jobs in the United States. Manulife Investment Management's real estate arm uses a pool of capital to invest in real estate in 29 cities across the United States, Asia and Canada. According to its annual report, the insurer had about C$13.2 billion ($9.90 billion) worth of real estate investments in 2021.

FRANKFURT, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Newly appointed Fresenius CEO Michael Sen said that the company's debt-financed growth strategy cannot continue, in an interview in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung's Wednesday edition. But this model is no longer viable," Sen said, laying out his realignment of the firm following his appointment on Oct. 1. Regarding Elliott Investment Management's stake in the company announced last week, Sen said: "We have already been in contact with Elliott." Fresenius management will include the opinion of investors regarding the future of the company in its considerations, he said, adding that no banks had been mandated for the sale of its hospital operator Helios. Cathie Wood, Founder, CEO, and CIO of ARK Invest, speaks at the 2022 Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, May 2, 2022. The Federal Reserve likely is making a mistake in its hardline stance against inflation Ark Investment Management's Cathie Wood said Monday in an open letter to the central bank. Instead of looking at employment and price indexes from previous months, Wood said the Fed should be taking lessons from commodity prices that indicate the biggest economic risk going forward is deflation, not inflation. Specifically, the consumer price and personal consumption expenditures price indexes both showed inflation running high. Headline CPI rose 0.1% in August and was up 8.3% year over year, while headline PCE accelerated 0.3% and 6.2% respectively.
The latest threat to stocks now isn't any macro risk — it's rising 2-year Treasury yields, according to some fund managers and strategists. Short-term, relatively risk-free Treasury bonds and funds are back in the spotlight as the yield on the 2-year Treasury continues to surge. Meanwhile, U.S.-listed short-term Treasury ETFs have attracted $7 billion of inflows so far in September — six times the volume of inflows last month, BlackRock said. Here's what analysts say about how to allocate your portfolio right now. This sees investors put 60% of their portfolio in stocks, and 40% bonds.
The Fed is expected to fire off another three-quarter point rate hike — its third in a row. We had theoretical road maps up until now, but from the Fed's point of view they're crossing into a world of tightening. Neutral is considered to be the interest rate level where Fed policy is no longer easy, but not yet restrictive. The Fed has considered 2.5% to be neutral, and if it raises by three-quarters of a point, fed funds will be in a range of 3% to 3.25%. In June, the Fed forecast the unemployment rate would be 3.7% this year, the same level it was at in August.
