Sharon Kuok started studying in Singapore when she was seven, commuting daily to and from her home in the southern Malaysian state capital of Johor Bahru. We picked JB [Johor Bahru] because that's where I am from and for its proximity to Singapore," she said. Already, many people from Singapore have started visiting the Malaysian state regularly to shop and to enjoy services from car repair to massages and haircuts. The number of Singaporeans visiting or relocating to Johor could increase in coming years when a rail link between Singapore and Johor Bahru is completed and the planned Johor-Singapore special economic zone (JS-SEZ) takes effect.

In a complaint Sept. 18, the U.S. claimed civil damages totaling $103,078,056 under the Rivers and Harbors Act, the Oil Pollution Act and general maritime law, according to the release. There are still dozens of outstanding civil claims, including one from the state of Maryland, seeking damages from the owners of the Dali. According to the Justice Department, Thursday's settlement does not include damages to rebuild the bridge because Maryland built, owned, maintained and operated it. The Dali smashed into the Key Bridge early March 26 after it left the Port of Baltimore en route to Sri Lanka. The ship lost power, regained power, then lost power again before it hit the bridge, causing it to collapse into the Fort McHenry Channel.

CNN —Twin bomb threats hit Indian airliners on opposite sides of the globe on Tuesday, forcing an emergency landing in the Arctic and fighter jets to scramble in Asia – the latest in a series of similar hoax scares for the country’s airlines. On Tuesday, an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago made an emergency landing in Iqaluit, Canada’s northernmost city. Air India flight 127 was the “subject of a security threat posted online” and diverted “as a precautionary measure,” the airline said. Multiple flights by Indian carriers have been delayed or diverted due to false bomb threats since Monday. The Air India emergency landing in Canada comes as tensions rise between the two countries after Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, on Monday.

Now, 20 years later, I've visited 86 countries on a shoestring budget. It feels more ethical, too, as our money went straight to people living by the river instead of a tour company based elsewhere. More than 90% of travelers from Southeast Asia say that gun prevalence in the United States influences whether they will visit, according to a new survey. However, nearly 80% said the likelihood that they would attend a mass gathering — such as a concert or music festival — would be greatly or moderately affected by the number of guns in the United States. Half of those surveyed said they have been to the United States. But a prior visit didn't calm Singaporeans' worries about gun violence to the same extent as other nationalities. Another 5% said they will out-and-out refuse to visit if Trump wins, with 2% saying the same about a Harris win.
