Washington, DC, public transportation services — including trains and buses — begin experiencing delays, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. At 5:30 a.m., US cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike tells customers that it was “aware of reports of crashes” of its software on Microsoft Windows operating systems, according to a company advisory viewed by CNN. Australian lenders ANZ and Westpac were also impacted, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks cyber outages. Other states also report impacts to their driving services, including Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. CrowdStrike would take steps “to prevent anything like this from happening again,” according to a statement on the company’s website.

Employees who brewed and served Starbucks coffee, whom Starbucks called baristas, handwrote customers’ names on their drink orders. But Starbucks’ business has transformed, and it has struggled to maintain its identity as that third place along the way. In some stores, customers complained online that Starbucks pulled out comfortable chairs and replaced them with hard wooden stools. Mobile ordering was another major step in Starbucks’ road to becoming primarily a take-away business. Starbucks also is opening 2,000 new stores, including traditional Starbucks locations, pick-up stores, delivery-only stores and drive thru-only locations.

Here’s what to know if you’re planning to travel this weekend. David J. Phillip/APUS-based carriers American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Allegiant Airlines, SunCountry and Frontier Airlines all reported issues on Friday. Crews have limits on their working hours, so staffing challenges cascade along with flight delays. That all depends on the type of ticket you have, the airline you’re flying with and whether you have travel insurance (which is always a good idea). If you’re set to travel soon, wherever you are in the world, it’s worth double checking your individual journey status before you travel.

Uber on Tuesday announced it's rolling out a new feature that lets users see average wait times and costs for rides in more than 10,000 cities. The average wait times and prices are based on recent historical aggregated data of Uber trips, both on-demand and reserved, within that city, according to Uber. and selecting "search in a different city." Riders can also make reservations for upcoming trips, Uber said. While some users will see the latest update beginning Tuesday, Uber said the tool will become available for all customers in the coming days.

The delivery reckoning is here

Unlike employees, contractor delivery workers have to cover many of their own costs. "No one wins under this law, including delivery workers," the spokesperson said. Gig workers have had to get choosier about jobsThe dilemma isn't unique to the food delivery world. Timothy Turer, who has worked in rideshare and gig delivery in Florida since 2016, remembers the dirt-cheap fares that Uber and Lyft offered riders early on. But with many telling BI that the job has gotten less profitable for them lately, or setting up their own delivery services, or even begging food delivery customers for better tips, it's clear cracks are starting to show in the well-polished delivery system.

AirHelp, an air passenger rights company, released its 2024 AirHelp Score report on the best and worst airports around the world. The report ranked 239 airports from 69 countries, including the United States. To rank the airports, the company used data, partially based on the claims it processes worldwide, to calculate how often flights departed as scheduled in airports across the country and surveyed passengers about wait times, cleanliness, retail stores, and restaurants. Airports were scored based on flights from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024. AirHelp determined an airport's final ranking based on three factors:

He needs to execute better," Jim Cramer stressed, referring to Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan, during the Investing Club's June Monthly Meeting . Then in mid-June, Starbucks launched its limited-time "Pairings Menu," which includes a $5 coffee-and-croissant combo and a $6 coffee-and-breakfast-sandwich deal. Order up Jefferies' Barish also raised questions about Starbucks' menu innovations, arguing its updated drink options are not driving sales as much as hoped. Jim waits 45 minutes after sending a trade alert before buying or selling a stock in his charitable trust's portfolio. If Jim has talked about a stock on CNBC TV, he waits 72 hours after issuing the trade alert before executing the trade.

At the heart of the plan is Starbucks' "Siren Craft System," a series of processes that aim to make baristas' jobs easier and speed up service times for customers. Starbucks said more than 10% of its 10,000 stores have already implemented the system, which includes changing the production order for hot and cold drinks. Starbucks reported rates of incomplete mobile app orders in the mid-teens and said occasional customers came in less. Losing customers because of slow orders and other store frustrations could cost Starbucks at a particularly vulnerable time. The company plans to train existing workers for the role or potentially add new baristas, if needed.

Mario Tama | Getty ImagesSummer air travel is expected to soar in the United States. Last summer, a record-breaking summer for airports, there were air traffic jams and near collisions amid challenges in flight coordination. Based on air traffic patterns and airport density, New York City and Florida are subject to the highest risk of backups. "There is still a shortage of air traffic controllers, but it hasn't led to the worst outcomes that we were expecting when we were talking about the shortage of air traffic control workers even a year ago." With production delays, airlines pay billions to fly less fuel-efficient and more costly and aged jets.

London CNN —President Joe Biden had a shaky performance in last night’s presidential debate, triggering panic in the Democrat camp. Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, repeated multiple falsehoods while doubling down on his record of cutting taxes and hiking tariffs during his first presidential term. If repeated in a second Trump term, many economists fear that kind of agenda could stoke inflation at a critical moment and add to America’s rapidly growing debt mountain. That could pull the typical year-end election relief rally forward, said Ed Clissold, chief US strategist at Ned Davis Research. The US dollar has also been reactive — it edged higher as initial CNN polling found that Trump was viewed as the winner of the debate.

Here’s what you need to know about the massive software outage. Its systems are used by roughly 15,000 car dealerships across the United States and Canada. Under normal circumstances, the CDK software allows the dealership to register a vehicle almost instantaneously, but now the process faces heavy delays. It said it was able to bring a “small initial test group” of car dealerships back online. But the next morning, the company told dealerships another incident had happened.

London CNN —Nvidia, Nvidia, Nvidia. Nvidia’s stock bounced back Tuesday, yet investors have been reminded of a potentially bubble-bursting truth: You can fly too close to the sun. For context, it took Warren Buffett about 60 years to build Berkshire Hathaway into a nearly trillion dollar company. A new endorsement of Starbucks from a top Wall Street research firm doesn't budge our skepticism about the coffee giant's ability to deal with the multiple challenges holding back its stock. Goldman Sachs on Thursday initiated coverage of Club name Starbucks with a buy rating and a $100-per-share price target. That price target represents more than 25% upside to the prior session's close. That night, we downgraded the stock to a 2 rating and cut our price target to $90 per share. It is also expanding the rental subsidy policy for SSI applicants and beneficiaries, as well as the definition of a public assistance household. Those changes should allow more people to access and qualify for SSI, O'Malley said. Under current limitations, at work, SSI beneficiaries may not be able to contribute to a 401(k) or earn raises.
